Your Role
In this role, you will report to the Group Head of IP, serving as a key technical and IP specialist within Accelleron’s Global IP organization. You will independently drive the protection of Accelleron’s technologies through the assessment of invention disclosures, patent applications, and patents, while identifying strategic IP risks and shaping impactful patent strategies.
Your Responsibilities
- Patent Portfolio Management
- Provide expert evaluations of invention disclosures to support strategic decisions in the IP review team.
- Manage the company’s patent and design patent portfolio, guiding patent attorneys during prosecution processes.
- Prepare regular patent portfolio assessments to be periodically presented to the IP review team.
- Collaborate with R&D and cross-functional teams to develop robust IP protection and defense strategies.
- Freedom to Operate (FTO)
- Coordinate FTO processes, including prior art searches and IP risk assessments.
- Provide IP guidance to project managers during new product development to identify and mitigate risks effectively.
- Enhance the FTO process, incorporating AI solutions where applicable.
- Third-Party Patent Monitoring
- Monitor and assess relevant third-party patent applications and legal status changes.
- Conduct technical and IP assessments of potential conflict cases in collaboration with experts and patent attorneys.
- IP Processes & Tools
- Maintain and optimize IP management tools.
- Train employees in patent-related processes and document review.
- Continuously improve IP processes to enhance efficiency and value for stakeholders.
- Contractual & Enforcement Support
- Review IP clauses in contracts and agreements.
- Assist in IP enforcement and infringement cases by leveraging your technical and strategic insight.
- Collaboration
- Serve as the main contact for external law firms on all patent-related matters.
- Consult with inventors, project managers, and management teams.
- Work closely with IP specialists in China on patent and IPR enforcement matters.
- Evaluate supplier requests for the use of Accelleron’s IPRs, making decisions to protect brand integrity.
Your Background
- Strong technical background in mechanical engineering, with experience in:
- Turbocharging/Turbomachinery
- Internal combustion engines and power generation systems
- Materials and additive manufacturing
- Experience as a patent officer, patent engineer, or equivalent in intellectual property is preferred.
- Structured working style with effective planning, prioritization, and strategic skills.
- High accuracy and initiative, with the ability to work independently.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Teams, and SharePoint.
- Interest in utilizing AI opportunities to enhance IP operational efficiency.
- Business fluency in German and English.
Additional Assets
- Familiarity with IP management tools (e.g., Diams iQ, Anaqua, Orbit).
- Knowledge of patent law processes and enforcement strategies.
- Ability to coordinate with global teams and external partners.
- Curiosity and detective skills are advantageous.
- Basic knowledge or experience in trademark management is a plus.
