Job Purpose

Aiglon College is an esteemed international boarding school located in the breathtaking Swiss Alps, renowned for delivering a challenging and transformative holistic education within a nurturing and supportive framework. The school holds CIS accreditation and serves approximately 450 students aged 7-18 from 70 different nations. During their final years, students prepare for Cambridge IGCSEs and the IB Diploma Programme, but our unique learning philosophy is embedded from the earliest stages. The Junior School, dedicated to students in Years 3-8, is an integral part of the overall school structure while maintaining a distinct focus on younger learners.

For August 2025, the school seeks to appoint a teaching assistant for the Junior School, primarily working with students in Years 3-6. Experience in an international school setting is highly advantageous. This role is expected to involve approximately 20 to 30 hours of support per week and is a term-time only position.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Support teaching staff in the educational development of pupils, including the provision of specialized skills as appropriate.
  • Provide support for students, either individually or in groups, with a focus on those with EAL considerations or additional learning needs.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with individual pupils and groups.
  • Contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans as necessary.
  • Assist pupils during learning activities to promote social and emotional development.
  • Support the health and well-being of pupils.
  • Aid bilingual/multilingual pupils, as appropriate.
  • Support children with specific needs, such as sensory and/or physical impairments, learning difficulties, or behavioral challenges.
  • Encourage and assist Gifted and Talented pupils.
  • Provide support in enhancing pupils’ literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Facilitate pupils’ access to the curriculum.
  • Attend to the personal care needs of children as appropriate, in line with school guidelines.

Support for the Teacher(s)

  • Observe and report on pupil performance.
  • Contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining the learning environment.
  • Support the management of pupils’ behavior and maintain accurate records.
  • Help ensure pupils' safety and security.
  • Supervise the class briefly in emergencies or during planned absences, when necessary.
  • Perform routine marking following school policy.
  • Provide administrative support, such as creating worksheets or invigilating examinations.

Support for the School

  • Contribute to the development and effectiveness of teamwork within the school environment.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other professionals.
  • Liaise with parents as appropriate.
  • Continuously review and enhance personal professional practice.

Support for the Curriculum

  • Facilitate the use of information and communication technology in the classroom.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people under your responsibility or in contact with.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Engage in appropriate professional development, adhering to the principles of appraisal and performance management.
  • Embrace the ethos of Aiglon while promoting the school’s vision and aims through personal integrity and professionalism.
  • Attend relevant staff meetings, parents’ evenings, and open houses.
  • Perform any other duties necessary for the smooth operation of the Junior School.
