Job Purpose

Aiglon College is an esteemed international boarding school nestled in the picturesque Swiss Alps, renowned for its transformative holistic education. With a commitment to fostering an inspiring and safe learning environment, Aiglon College is CIS accredited and accommodates 450 students aged 7-18 from 70 diverse nations. While students in their final years prepare for the Cambridge IGCSEs and the IB Diploma Programme, our unique learning philosophy is introduced early, beginning with our youngest learners. The Junior School serves as a vital segment of the overall institution, dedicated to the educational needs of students in Years 3-8.

The school is seeking to appoint a teaching assistant for the Junior School, effective August 2025. This role will primarily involve supporting students in Years 3-6. Experience in an international school setting will be considered an asset. The position will entail approximately 20 to 30 hours of work per week and is term-time only.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Support for Students

  • Assist teaching staff in the development and education of pupils, providing specialized support where necessary.
  • Engage with students individually or in groups, focusing on those with EAL considerations or additional learning needs.
  • Establish and maintain supportive relationships with individual pupils and groups.
  • Contribute to the creation of Individual Education Plans as appropriate.
  • Facilitate students during learning activities and promote their social and emotional growth.
  • Contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of pupils.
  • Assist bilingual/multilingual pupils where applicable.
  • Support children with specific needs such as sensory or physical impairments, cognitive difficulties, or social and emotional needs.
  • Encourage and support Gifted and Talented pupils.
  • Enhance pupils’ literacy and numeracy skills and provide support for accessing the curriculum.
  • Address personal care needs of children in line with school guidance as necessary.

Support for Teaching Staff

  • Monitor and report on student performance.
  • Contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining the classroom environment.
  • Help manage pupil behaviour effectively.
  • Maintain pupil records accurately.
  • Support the safety and security of pupils.
  • Supervise the class temporarily during emergencies or short planned absences of the teacher.
  • Conduct routine marking in accordance with school policy.
  • Provide administrative assistance, such as preparing worksheets and invigilating examinations.

Support for the School

  • Promote effective teamwork within the school environment.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other professionals.
  • Liaise with parents as appropriate.
  • Continuously review and develop personal professional practice.

Support for the Curriculum

  • Facilitate the use of information and communication technology in the classroom.
  • Ensure the welfare of children and young people is safeguarded.
  • Conduct all tasks with due regard to Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Engage in relevant professional development and adhere to appraisal/performance management principles.
  • Uphold the ethos of Aiglon College, embodying the agreed vision and mission while demonstrating personal integrity and professionalism.
  • Attend staff meetings, parent evenings, and other relevant events.
  • Perform any other duties that align with the role to ensure the smooth operation of the Junior School.
