Job Purpose
Aiglon College is an esteemed international boarding school located in the breathtaking Swiss Alps, renowned for its transformative holistic education within a safe, caring, and supportive environment. Accredited by CIS, the school serves 450 students aged 7-18 from 70 different nations. Students prepare for Cambridge IGCSEs and the IB Diploma Programme in their final years, while our distinct learning philosophy starts nurturing our youngest learners. The Junior School is an integral component of the overall institution, focusing specifically on students in Years 3-8.
The school is seeking to appoint a teaching assistant for the Junior School, effective August 2025. This role will primarily involve working with students in Years 3-6. Experience in an international school setting is advantageous. The position is a term-time only contract, expected to involve approximately 20 to 30 hours of work per week.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Support teaching staff in the development and education of pupils, incorporating specialist skills where appropriate.
Support for Students
- Assist individual pupils or groups, especially those with EAL considerations or additional learning needs.
- Establish and maintain relationships with pupils and groups.
- Contribute to Individual Education Plans as necessary.
- Support pupils during learning activities and promote their social and emotional development.
- Contribute to the health and well-being of students.
- Provide assistance for bilingual/multilingual pupils, depending on the focus of the role.
- Support children with specific needs, including sensory or physical impairments, cognitive or learning difficulties, and emotional or social development needs.
- Assist Gifted and Talented pupils.
- Help students enhance their literacy and numeracy skills and access the curriculum.
- Address the personal care needs of children as appropriate, following school guidance.
Support for Teachers
- Observe and report on student performance.
- Contribute to the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining the learning environment.
- Help manage pupil behavior and maintain safety and security.
- Supervise the class during brief emergencies or planned absences.
- Undertake routine marking as per school policy.
- Provide administrative support, such as producing worksheets or invigilating examinations.
Support for the School
- Foster teamwork and collaboration within the school environment.
- Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and professionals.
- Liaise with parents as necessary.
- Continuously review and enhance personal professional practice.
Support for the Curriculum
- Assist in utilizing information and communication technology in the classroom.
- Safeguard the welfare of children and young people with whom you interact.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations in all tasks.
- Participate in relevant professional development and adhere to principles of appraisal and performance management.
- Embody the ethos of Aiglon, promoting the school's vision and aims while exemplifying integrity and professionalism.
- Attend staff meetings, parent-teacher evenings, and other relevant events.
- Perform any additional duties as commensurate with the position to ensure the seamless operation of the Junior School.
