Job Information
The activity rate for this position ranges from 50% to 100%, depending on the number of team members we bring on board. We are aiming to hire two part-time team members: one based in Lausanne or Geneva to focus on the French-speaking region of Switzerland, and another in Basel or Zurich to emphasize the Swiss German region. Each role is expected to function at a 50% rate, facilitating strong regional focus and collaboration.
This position can be based in Lausanne, Geneva, Zurich, or Basel, allowing for some flexibility to work from other office locations and remotely.
Responsibilities
- Develop activities that enable the public (lay audience) to discover the field of bioinformatics and understand its impact on scientific discoveries and societal benefits.
- Promote these activities across the French and German-speaking parts of Switzerland by leveraging SIB’s national network and university-led initiatives.
- Support SIB Groups in their efforts to develop outreach activities and assist the Communications team in generating media content to promote SIB.
- Participate in workshops, public scientific fairs, and school interventions.
- Create digital and printed tools such as websites (existing and new), apps, videos, games, and leaflets based on the objectives of respective projects.
Profile Requirements
Experience
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position, focusing on science communication, outreach activities, or related fields.
Education
A university degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field (minimum MSc level).
Technical Skills
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English, French, and/or German (ideally with some proficiency in Swiss German), with the ability to translate complex concepts into engaging narratives suitable for a variety of audiences, including the general public, teachers, students, and pupils.
- Proven experience in creating and managing engaging content across major social media platforms, alongside a strong understanding of the different domains in which SIB Groups operate.
- Insight into communication challenges and the capacity to leverage various communication channels effectively.
- Outstanding organizational and project management skills (experience with project management tools such as Asana or ClickUp is an asset).
- Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PPT), with a creative disposition and comfort in adapting to new technologies.
