The Head of Pastoral will lead a relational, inclusive, and values-driven pastoral system that ensures every student feels safe, known, and supported. This role emphasizes that behavior serves as communication, prioritizes relationships, and operates within a framework of clarity, kindness, and unwavering consistency.

Pastoral Approach
- Model calm, consistent, and respectful behavior
- Maintain relentless consistency in expectations, routines, and responses
- Foster visible kindness alongside firm boundaries
- Prioritize relationships by knowing students deeply
- Engage in restorative conversations over punitive sanctions
- Understand behavior as communication, not defiance
- Implement predictable responses rather than harsh consequences
Strategic Leadership of Pastoral Culture
- Develop and embed a whole-school pastoral vision rooted in relational practice and inclusion
- Design and implement a behavior framework based on relational principles
- Ensure pastoral systems are simple, consistent, and understood by all
- Review pastoral impact using qualitative and quantitative data
Behavior Culture and Systems
- Create a calm, purposeful environment with explicit expectations
- Replace punitive systems with restorative approaches to behavior
- Develop shared language, routines, and scripts for managing behavior
- Lead de-escalation strategies and emotionally intelligent responses
- Manage behavior tracking systems to identify patterns and inform interventions
Student Wellbeing and Inclusion
- Ensure every student is known, valued, and supported as an individual
- Lead proactive wellbeing programs focused on belonging, identity, and resilience
- Oversee interventions for students with SEMH needs or additional vulnerabilities
- Promote inclusive practices reflecting the diversity of an international school community
Safeguarding and Child Protection
- Ensure safeguarding is central to pastoral decision-making
- Lead staff training on safeguarding responsibilities
- Maintain strong partnerships with external agencies
Leadership and Development of Staff
- Train and coach staff in relational-informed behavior management
- Model calm authority, consistency, and relational practice
- Support staff through coaching rather than compliance monitoring
- Lead professional development on restorative conversations and de-escalation techniques
- Ensure new staff are inducted into the school’s pastoral philosophy
Student Voice and Community Culture
- Promote authentic student voice and leadership opportunities
- Foster a sense of belonging and community across diverse backgrounds
- Ensure students understand expectations and feel treated fairly
- Lead initiatives celebrating diversity, inclusion, and global citizenship
Partnership with Families
- Develop trusting relationships with parents from diverse cultural contexts
- Communicate behavior and wellbeing issues in a solution-focused manner
- Support families in understanding the school’s non-punitive approach to behavior
- Align home-school expectations through workshops and communication
Attendance and Engagement
- Promote high levels of attendance through a sense of belonging
- Identify barriers to attendance and implement supportive interventions
- Collaborate with families to improve attendance as needed
Operational Leadership
- Oversee pastoral systems ensuring clarity and consistency
- Maintain accurate and compliant pastoral records
- Lead responses to serious incidents with calmness and fairness
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver lessons that balance knowledge, understanding, and thinking skills
- Ensure effective teaching objectives are met
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of subject content
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum
- Set high standards for student behavior and discipline
- Provide timely feedback on student work
- Adjust teaching approaches to meet individual learner needs
Pupil Wellbeing
- Ensure student safeguarding and report concerns appropriately
- Create a community of mutual respect and support
- Uphold school policies and expectations
- Act as a positive role model for students
Accountability
- Report pupil progress to parents each term
- Motivate and inspire staff and students
- Plan student assessments with clear criteria linking to external outcomes
- Monitor student progress and take action as needed
Additional Duties
- Lead at least one after-school activity per week during each term
- Participate in all school functions
- Fulfill break and lunch duties as required
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development
- Contribute to school events and initiatives
- Engage in ongoing professional development
