Job Description
This position primarily involves providing holistic, evidence-based care to a private individual, focusing on her diverse needs in a positive, person-centred manner. Currently, these needs include a diagnosis of dementia, age-related frailties, and any other health co-morbidities that may arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, develop, and implement care programs; provide advice; and maintain associated records, either manually or digitally.
- Carry out nursing procedures as required, in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Provide clinical supervision to other staff members.
- Direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to promote best practices in dementia care.
- In the absence of the team leader, provide coverage to ensure effective care delivery to the client, raising any issues with the line manager.
Qualifications / Essential Requirements
- Swiss or EU passport (or holder of a Swiss working permit).
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or European/Swiss equivalent.
- Nursing degree or equivalent qualification.
- Completion or progression towards Best Practice in Dementia Training.
- Willingness to undergo specific dementia training, such as Best Practice in Dementia Care, delivered in English.
- Additional qualifications related to dementia, including stress and distress training, meaningful activity, and Sage and Thyme.
- Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behaviour assessment.
- Willingness to develop dementia knowledge as part of CPD, either independently or as provided by the organization.
- Specialist dementia qualification or additional studies in related areas.
- Knowledge of understanding behaviour as communication and familiarity with non-pharmacological interventions and strategies.
- Experience in End of Life Care and the ability to develop relevant clinical skills for managing co-morbidities and end-of-life care.
Qualifications / Additional Requirements
- Moving and Handling Trainer.
- Beauty/Massage Therapy qualifications.
- Experience in facilitating Meaningful Activity.
Language Skills / Essential
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; ideally a native speaker.
- Excellent written communication skills in English.
- Understanding that communication difficulties due to dementia can significantly impact quality of life, increasing stress and distress for the client.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with individuals diagnosed with dementia.
Personal Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team while also being able to take initiative.
- Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with various professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Basic technology proficiency.
- Teaching skills for junior staff, families, and other professionals.
- Female candidates are preferred for this position.
Specific Job Requirements
- Commitment to a shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
- Necessity to travel with the client within the UK.
- Unsociable hours, including sleepover arrangements alternating nights with another staff member.
- Possible accompanying of the client to and from various venues as part of job duties.
- Conducting oneself in a manner appropriate to the client's social standing.
- Maintaining confidentiality in line with NMC requirements and organizational policies; a confidentiality agreement will be provided separately.
- Understanding the local culture of the client and family, recognizing that as dementia progresses, a lack of awareness can lead to increased stress and undesired pharmacological interventions.
- Housekeeping is also a significant aspect of this position.
