Job Description

The primary focus of this role is to provide holistic, evidence-based best practice care to a private individual, ensuring all needs are met in a positive, person-centred manner. The individual's current challenges include a diagnosis of dementia, age-related frailties, and other potential health co-morbidities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Assess, plan, develop, and implement individualized care programs while maintaining associated records, either manually or digitally.
  • Carry out nursing procedures in accordance with clinical guidelines.
  • Provide clinical supervision and guidance to other staff members.
  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to promote best practices in dementia care.
  • Provide coverage in the absence of the team leader, ensuring the effective delivery of care.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Swiss or EU passport (or holder of a Swiss work permit).
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or its European/Swiss equivalent.
  • Nursing degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of Best Practice in Dementia Training or commitment to undertake this training.
  • Willingness to participate in specific dementia training, such as Best Practice in Dementia Care, delivered in English.
  • Additional qualifications related to dementia, including stress and distress training, meaningful activity, and Sage and Thyme.
  • Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
  • Commitment to develop dementia knowledge as part of ongoing professional development.
  • Specialist dementia qualification or additional studies in related fields.
  • Knowledge of behavior as a form of communication and expertise in non-pharmacological interventions and strategies.
  • Experience in End of Life Care and the ability to develop relevant clinical skills for addressing co-morbidities.

Qualifications / Additional Requirements

These skills may be advantageous:

  • Moving and Handling Trainer certification
  • Beauty or Massage Therapy qualifications
  • Skills in Meaningful Activity facilitation

Language Requirements

  • Effective communication skills in English, preferably as a first language (mother tongue).
  • Excellent written communication in English.
  • Understanding the impact of dementia on communication and its effects on quality of life.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with individuals diagnosed with dementia is required.

  • Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Proficient in basic technology.
  • Teaching skills for junior staff, families, and other professionals.
  • Preferred female candidate.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Commitment to a shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
  • Willingness to undertake overnight duties in a sleepover arrangement, alternating nights with another staff member.
  • Potentially accompanying the client to various venues as part of the role.
  • Conducting oneself in a manner befitting the client's social standing.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with NMC requirements and the organization's privacy policies.
  • Understanding and respecting the client's local culture, facilitating effective communication as dementia progresses.
  • Housekeeping responsibilities are also integral to this position.
