Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated professional to provide holistic, evidence-based best practice care to a private individual in a positive, person-centered manner. The individual currently has a diagnosis of dementia, experiences age-related frailties, and may have other health-related co-morbidities that require attention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, develop, and implement individualized care programs; provide advice and maintain associated records either manually or digitally.
  • Perform nursing procedures as required, adhering to clinical guidelines.
  • Provide clinical supervision to other staff members.
  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to promote best practices in the care of the client with dementia.
  • In the absence of the team leader, offer cover to assure effective delivery of care to the client. Report any issues to the line manager.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Swiss or EU passport (or Swiss work permit holder).
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or European/Swiss equivalent.
  • Nursing degree or equivalent.
  • Completed Best Practice in Dementia Training or willingness to undertake this training.
  • Willingness to undergo specific dementia training, such as Best Practice in Dementia Care, delivered in English.
  • Additional qualifications in dementia-related topics, including stress and distress training, meaningful activity, Sage and Thyme.
  • Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
  • Commitment to developing dementia knowledge as part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), either independently or through organizational support.
  • Specialist dementia qualification or additional studies in related areas.
  • Ability to understand behavior as a form of communication and knowledge of non-pharmacological interventions and strategies.
  • Experience in End of Life Care and the development of relevant clinical skills for managing co-morbidities and end-of-life care.

  • Beauty/Massage Therapy.
  • Experience in Meaningful Activity.

Language / Essential

  • Effective communication skills in English, with English as a first language (ideally, mother tongue).
  • Local dialect knowledge specific to Central Scotland is a plus.
  • Excellent written communication skills in English.
  • Awareness of the communication challenges associated with FTL Dementia, which can affect quality of life and lead to increased stress and distress.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience working with individuals with dementia.

  • Strong teamwork skills alongside the ability to work independently.
  • Effective listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent time management abilities.
  • Basic technological proficiency.
  • Teaching skills for mentoring junior staff, family members, and other professionals.
  • Female gender (as stipulated by client preference).

Specific Job Requirements

  • Commitment to a shift pattern that may involve working in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
  • Willingness to travel with the client within the UK.
  • Ability to work unsociable hours, including a sleepover arrangement alternating nights with another staff member during shifts.
  • Potential involvement in accompanying the client to various venues as part of the duties.
  • Conducting oneself in a manner suitable to the client's social standing is essential.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in line with NMC requirements and organizational standards; a confidentiality agreement will be provided separately.
  • Understanding the cultural context relevant to the client and their family, particularly as dementia progresses, in order to reduce stress and distress that may provoke unnecessary pharmacological interventions.
  • Housekeeping duties are also a key aspect of this position.
