Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated professional to provide holistic, evidence-based care to a private individual, focusing on her comprehensive needs in a positive, person-centered manner. Currently, these needs include a diagnosis of dementia, age-related frailties, as well as potential health co-morbidities that may arise.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Assess, plan, develop, and implement care programs; provide advice; and maintain associated records, either manually or digitally.
  • Perform nursing procedures as required in accordance with clinical guidelines.
  • Offer clinical supervision to other staff members.

The post-holder will direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to ensure best practice in the care of clients with dementia. In the absence of the team leader, this role will provide cover to guarantee effective care delivery. Any issues that arise should be promptly communicated to the line manager.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Swiss or EU passport (or holder of a Swiss work permit).
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or European/Swiss equivalent.
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of Best Practice in Dementia Training or willingness to pursue this training.
  • Willingness to undergo specific dementia training (e.g., Best Practice in Dementia Care) delivered in English.
  • Additional qualifications in dementia-related topics such as stress and distress training, meaningful activity, Sage and Thyme.
  • Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or the PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
  • Willingness to enhance dementia knowledge as part of CPD, either independently or through organizational offerings.
  • Specialist dementia qualification or additional studies in related areas.
  • Understanding behavior as communication, with a good knowledge of non-pharmacological interventions and strategies.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with people with dementia.

Qualifications / Additional Requirements

  • Moving and Handling Trainer certification.
  • Background in Beauty/Massage Therapy.
  • Experience in Meaningful Activity facilitation.

Language Requirements

  • Effective communication skills in English; ideally, this will be your first language.
  • Excellent written communication capabilities in English.
  • Due to the nature of dementia, effective communication is crucial to enhance quality of life and minimize stress for the client.

Personal Skills and Abilities

  • Proven teamwork skills while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
  • Effective listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with people and contribute to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Familiarity with basic technology.
  • Teaching skills for junior staff, family, and other professionals.
  • Female candidates are preferred for this position.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Commitment to working a shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
  • Willingness to travel with the client throughout the UK.
  • Ability to accommodate unsociable hours, including sleepover arrangements alternating nights with other staff.
  • May involve accompanying the client to various venues as part of your duties.
  • Conduct and present oneself appropriately to match the client's social standing.
  • Maintaining confidentiality is essential, adhering to NMC guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Understanding the local culture and the needs of the client and family as dementia progresses.
  • Housekeeping abilities are also a key aspect of this position.
