Job Description

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide holistic, evidence-based care to an individual with a focus on their unique needs in a positive, person-centered manner. The individual currently requires support due to a diagnosis of dementia, age-related frailties, and any other emerging health co-morbidities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, develop, and implement care programmes; provide advice and maintain associated records, either manually or digitally.
  • Carry out nursing procedures in accordance with clinical guidelines.
  • Provide clinical supervision to other staff members.
  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to promote best practices in caring for a client with dementia.
  • Cover for the team leader when necessary to ensure effective delivery of care.
  • Report any issues to the line manager promptly.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Swiss or EU passport (or holder of a Swiss work permit).
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or European/Swiss equivalent.
  • Nursing degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of Best Practice in Dementia Training or willingness to undertake it.
  • Willingness to undergo specific dementia training (Best Practice in Dementia Care) delivered in English.
  • Additional qualifications related to dementia topics including stress and distress training, meaningful activity, Sage and Thyme.
  • Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
  • Commitment to developing dementia knowledge as part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), either independently or through the organization.
  • Specialist dementia qualification or further studies in related fields.
  • Comprehension of behavior as communication and a strong knowledge of non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Experience in End of Life Care and relevant clinical skills for managing co-morbidities and end-of-life care.

Qualifications / Additional Requirements

  • Certification as a Moving and Handling Trainer.
  • Qualifications in Beauty/Massage Therapy.
  • Experience in facilitating Meaningful Activity.

Language / Essential

  • Proficiency in English communication, ideally as a first language (mother tongue).
  • Excellent written communication skills in English.
  • Understanding the impact of language on the quality of life for individuals with dementia, particularly as cognitive functions may be affected.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience working with individuals who have dementia is required.

  • Exceptional team working skills with the ability to act independently.
  • Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent time management abilities.
  • Basic technology literacy.
  • Teaching skills for junior staff, family members, and other professionals.
  • Female gender is preferred.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Commitment to working a shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
  • Willingness to travel with the client within the UK.
  • Availability for unsociable hours, including sleepover arrangements alternating nights with other staff members.
  • Ability to accompany the client to various venues as part of the duties.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to the social standing of the client.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with NMC requirements and organizational policies; a confidentiality agreement will be provided.
  • Comprehension of the cultural context of the client and their family; awareness and understanding can mitigate stress and distress as dementia progresses.
  • Housekeeping duties will also be integral to this position.
