Job Description

This position offers an opportunity to provide a holistic, evidence-based best practice care for a private individual, addressing all her needs in a positive, person-centered manner. The current needs include a diagnosis of dementia, age-related frailties, and any other emerging health co-morbidities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, develop, and implement comprehensive care programs; provide informed advice; and maintain accurate records, both manually and digitally.
  • Execute nursing procedures as necessary, adhering to clinical guidelines.
  • Offer clinical supervision to other staff members.

The successful candidate will direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff, promoting best practices in caring for clients with dementia. In the absence of the team leader, the candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of care. Any concerns should be communicated to the line manager.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Swiss or EU passport (or holder of a Swiss working permit).
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or European/Swiss equivalent.
  • Nursing degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion or active pursuit of Best Practice in Dementia Training.
  • Willingness to undergo specific dementia training, such as Best Practice in Dementia Care, delivered in English.
  • Additional qualifications related to dementia care including stress and distress training, meaningful activities, and Sage and Thyme.
  • Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behaviour assessment.
  • Willingness to expand dementia knowledge as part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Specialist dementia qualification or advanced studies in related fields.
  • Understanding behavior as communication and familiarity with non-pharmacological intervention strategies.
  • Experience in End of Life Care and the ability to develop relevant clinical skills for managing co-morbidities and end-of-life scenarios.

Qualifications / Additional Preferences

  • Moving and Handling Trainer.
  • Expertise in Beauty/Massage Therapy.
  • Experience in facilitating Meaningful Activity.

Language Requirements

  • Proficient in effective English communication, preferably as a first language (mother tongue).
  • Ability to communicate using the local dialect of Central Scotland, as applicable to the client.
  • Strong written communication skills in English.
  • Acknowledge the impact of dementia on communication and its effects on quality of life, emphasizing the importance of effective communication.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience working with individuals diagnosed with dementia is required.

  • Exhibit excellent teamwork skills, while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
  • Show effective listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with both individuals and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrate strong time management capabilities.
  • Basic technological proficiency is required.
  • Teaching skills for junior staff, family members, and other professionals.
  • Gender: Female preference.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Commitment to a work shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days), with the necessity of traveling with the client within the UK.
  • Participation in unsociable hours is included, typically in the form of alternating sleepover arrangements with another staff member during shifts.
  • May require accompanying the client to and from various venues as part of the duties.
  • Maintain professional conduct that reflects the client's social standing.
  • Ensure confidentiality is upheld in accordance with NMC standards and organizational policies; a confidentiality agreement will be provided separately.
  • Understanding the cultural context relevant to the client and family, recognizing that advancing dementia can heighten stress and confusion, which may lead to unnecessary pharmacological interventions.
  • Housekeeping responsibilities are also an essential aspect of this position.
