About Transmutex
Founded in 2019, Transmutex is dedicated to reinventing nuclear energy, medicine, and waste recycling through the use of an accelerator-driven system (ADS). Our innovative approach optimizes the transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste by combining particle accelerators with Thorium fuel derived from existing long-lived radioactive waste. This method not only generates energy that is intrinsically safe but also recycles the stockpile of long-lived waste in a proliferation-resistant manner.
Position: Reactor Physicist
We are actively seeking a qualified and skilled reactor physicist to join our team and contribute to the core design development for our advanced fast reactor system. The responsibilities of this role include performing neutronics and reactor physics calculations and analyses specifically for the subcritical lead-cooled fast reactor.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full core characterization of equilibrium cycles, transition cycles, and start-up cores using both Monte Carlo and deterministic codes.
- Implement a multi-batch reloading and reshuffling scheme to optimize core performance and fuel utilization.
- Conduct multi-physics calculations to analyze transient behavior in the reactor.
- Enhance and maintain multi-scale reactor physics models for the reactor system.
- Engage with internal (fuel, safety, and software) and external collaborators for design optimization.
- Contribute to licensing documentation, ensuring compliance with neutronics-related regulatory requirements.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must possess:
- A minimum Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. strongly preferred).
- At least 5 years of experience in neutronics design and analysis, preferably in fast reactors or ADS systems.
- Proven expertise in the use of Monte Carlo codes (SERPENT2, MCNP6) and deterministic codes such as ERANOS.
Additional Qualifications
It will be advantageous if you have:
- High-performance computing and programming skills in Python, C++, or other relevant languages for tool development and automation.
- Experience in fuel cycle analysis and optimization.
- Experience in uncertainty quantification and dynamic neutronics simulation techniques.
- Proficiency in English; a good level of French, German, or Italian would be a plus.
