About Transmutex

Founded in 2019, Transmutex aims to reinvent nuclear energy, medicine, and waste recycling through innovative technology. We utilize an accelerator-driven system (ADS) to optimize the transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste. Our unique approach combines particle accelerators with thorium fuel derived from existing radioactive waste, enabling the generation of intrinsically safe energy while recycling stockpiles of long-lived waste in a proliferation-resistant manner.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a qualified and skilled Reactor Physicist to contribute to the core design development of our advanced fast reactor system. This role involves performing crucial neutronics and reactor physics calculations and analyses for our subcritical lead-cooled fast reactor. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in neutron transport calculations and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, particularly with well-benchmarked codes for fast reactors, such as SERPENT2 and MCNP6. The successful candidate will collaborate with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams to design and analyze the reactor core, ensuring a safe, efficient, and sustainable core design based on the closed thorium fuel cycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform full core characterization for equilibrium cycles, transition cycles, and start-up cores using Monte Carlo and deterministic codes.
  • Implement multi-batch reloading and reshuffling schemes to optimize core performance and fuel utilization.
  • Conduct multi-physics calculations to analyze transient behavior in the reactor.
  • Enhance and maintain multi-scale reactor physics models for the reactor system.
  • Collaborate with internal (fuel, safety, and software) and external partners for design optimization.
  • Contribute to licensing documentation, ensuring compliance with neutronics-related regulatory requirements.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess:

  • A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. strongly preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience in neutronics design and analysis, preferably in fast reactors or ADS systems.
  • Proven expertise in working with Monte Carlo codes (SERPENT2, MCNP6) and deterministic codes like ERANOS.

Additional Qualifications

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Experience in high-performance computing and programming skills in Python, C++, or other relevant languages for tool development and automation.
  • Expertise in fuel cycle analysis and optimization.
  • Experience in uncertainty quantification and dynamic neutronics simulation techniques.
  • Proficiency in English is required; a good level of French, German, or Italian would be a plus.
