Position: Middle Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Middle Officer to join our Fuel desk. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the trading team by ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all transactions. This includes verifying trade details, coordinating with various departments, and resolving any discrepancies that may arise. Additionally, the Middle Officer will be responsible for managing and mitigating operational risks associated with trading activities, conducting regular reconciliations, monitoring risk exposure, and implementing risk management strategies. The role also entails maintaining robust operational controls to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for timely deal entry, accurate position reporting, pricing reporting, and adherence to trading limits.
  • Produce a daily P&L for the trading team, and provide breakdowns and explanations of key drivers (P&L attribution).
  • Manage the risk profile of the trading business in alignment with the agreed appetite for risk and risk limits.
  • Engage in strong interaction with traders in a challenging and growing environment.
  • Implement new controls by liaising with the IT team to improve and enhance processes.
  • Liaise with back office, trade support, accounting, and credit teams.
  • Work closely with the trading desk to understand their strategy and provide constructive challenges.

Skills Required

  • 0-3 years of experience in a similar role on an oil desk.
  • Strong understanding of mark-to-market, physical differentials, cargo economics, and storage.
  • Genuine interest in managing risk management ETRM systems and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate proactivity.
  • Curiosity to learn about other commodities.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with a good level of proficiency in VBA, Excel, Python, and Tableau.
  • Fluent English.
