Microfabrication Engineer / Microfabrication Engineeress

id Quantique SA - March 16, 2026

Join Our Team at IDQuantique

At IDQuantique, we are dedicated to developing the world’s highest-performing quantum computers. Our innovative full-stack technology, based on trapped-ion qubits, encompasses cutting-edge components such as custom compilers, embedded firmware, mixed-signal and RF electronics, cryogenics, vacuum technology, and lasers. This sophisticated ecosystem is designed, manufactured, and operated by our world-class scientists and engineers located in the UK, the US, and Switzerland.

Microfabrication Team Expansion

We are excited to announce that we are expanding our microfabrication team and seeking a full-time Process Engineer to join us in our CMi cleanrooms, based in or near Lausanne, Switzerland.

About the Role

This is primarily a hands-on technical role, where the successful candidate will be instrumental in manufacturing the ion trap chips that serve as the core of our quantum computers. These chips are composed of multiple interconnected layers of patterned metal with oxide separation, including integrated SiN photonic layers, and are fully manufacturable at our CMi cleanroom facility.

The selected candidate will also have opportunities to participate in ongoing collaborations with external partners, advance existing projects, and identify new partnerships to enhance our technology’s capabilities.

In addition to producing functional ion traps, this role involves process development to optimize yield, meet stringent tolerances, and explore new designs and functionalities.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end fabrication of ion trap chips
  • Process flow design and execution
  • Planning and execution of fabrication runs
  • Estimation of delivery timelines
  • Production of complete wafer history runcards
  • Process development and experimentation
  • Documentation of findings through detailed reports
  • Collaboration maintenance with external partners

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in standard semiconductor processing
  • Proficiency in 2D layout design (e.g., using Klayout software)
  • Hands-on experience with laser and photolithography techniques
  • Familiarity with thin film deposition and wet/dry etching
  • Knowledge of metrology tools such as SEM and profilometry
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment
  • Thrives with shifting requirements and continuously evolving information

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in e-beam lithography, particularly for photonic structures
