Key Responsibilities of the Role:
- Management of the Mechanical Systems under your control.
- Support engineering requirements by managing and liaising with key project stakeholders (client design team, main contractor, suppliers, subcontractors, etc.).
- Familiarize yourself with Design/IFC specifications and drawings to fully understand the project scope. Oversee the coordination process to transform design information into complete installation drawings by BIM personnel, ensuring compliance with specifications and alignment with schedule priorities. This will require the generation and management of Requests for Information (RFI) and technical queries.
- Oversee site safety in collaboration with the Project Manager and the Mercury Safety Advisor, including the setup, management, and closing out of the safety file as part of the management team.
- Manage site quality assurance in conjunction with the Mercury QA Manager, including the setup, management, and closeout of files.
- Manage project schedules in collaboration with the Mercury Project Manager, consulting engineer, and client requirements, ensuring that engineering activities do not impact the project timelines (e.g., procurement, etc.).
- Oversee all aspects associated with your package, including Mercury Mechanical Team, subcontractors, material deliveries and goods receipting, plant and equipment, variations, and valuations.
- Manage all day-to-day site operations.
- Ensure adherence to Mercury policies and procedures.
- Supervise subcontractor activities, tracking progress against schedule and manpower levels, ensuring adequate information flow to facilitate progress and log weekly meetings.
- Ensure work is installed according to project specifications and project QA plans (e.g., pre-agreed benchmarking).
- Assist the installation package team in managing the quality requirements for the project on-site, providing guidance to ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes, and specifications. This includes all site activities related to validation and handover to the client. Manage the Construction Work Packs process from development to implementation and handover, involving activities to support our construction management team.
- Manage the Mercury “In Progress” snagging system, ensuring that supervisors return weekly punch lists where applicable and distribute all snags to subcontractors.
- Issue direct labor hours and subcontractor hours to the time administrator for centralized tracking.
- Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning and coordination meetings, and handover meetings.
- Close out all project deliverables, including Final Account, O&M Manuals, Punch List, Safety File, QA File, Material and Plant relocations, and Project Plan, with support from the site project manager and your project team.
- Issue weekly cost reports detailing all orders placed, materials expected, and labor levels.
- Participate in information reporting, ensuring activity targets and deadlines are met to support the project team. An Engineering Task Log will be generated and managed by the Engineering Lead.
- Prepare internal weekly progress reports, summarizing project supervisors' reports to highlight progress percentages and any concerns, including risks within Mercury's control, such as late deliveries.
- Prepare external weekly progress reports for the project manager, detailing unavailable areas, delays, design shortages, third-party hold-ups, and completion percentages.
- Manage and undertake technical submittals and approvals.
- Schedule material deliveries in accordance with the project schedule and track deliveries. Manage material procurement using Engineering Materials Report (EMR) by producing material take-offs, identifying lead-in periods and field need rates.
- Maintain a weekly project photographic diary.
- Prepare Sub-contract and Supplier Tender Packages in conjunction with Project QS.
- Assess Sub-contract and Supplier Tender returns for technical compliance with design intent specifications.
- Evaluate and promote new engineering practices and processes to enhance project delivery timelines.
- Manage BIM priorities, supporting the team in developing modular concepts, typical fabrication details, and isometric generation for construction release while validating materials/assets within the model.
- Support and coach all junior engineers assigned to the project team, as their development is crucial to our organization and the industry.
- Attend project meetings or “White Board Activity Planning” sessions as required by the project and your team manager.
- Perform all other duties associated with the role.
