Join Our Team as a Mechanical Engineer
Oratek, an engineering consulting company based in Ecublens, Switzerland, is seeking a skilled and detail-driven Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. Founded in 2018, Oratek delivers precision equipment and engineering services to demanding industries, with a strong footprint in the precision industry. Our team thrives on small-scale, high-finish challenges where rigor and attention to detail are non-negotiable.
As a Mechanical Engineer at Oratek, you will design small benchtop machines and precision equipment—typically tabletop systems integrating fine mechanics, motion, actuators, sensors, and electronics—for some of the most demanding clients in Switzerland. This is machine design at a small scale; you will be architecting full systems (frame, kinematics, integration) as much as designing individual precision parts. You'll work alongside electronics, firmware, software, and system engineers in a tight, collaborative environment.
If you take pride in precision and want to work where every micron and every surface finish matters, we would like to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Design small benchtop machines and precision equipment, focusing on overall architecture, frame, kinematics, and integration of actuators, sensors, and electronics.
- Design, prototype, and validate small-scale precision mechanical assemblies and components.
- Produce manufacturing-ready 2D plans with full tolerancing (ISO / GD&T) for fine machining and plastic injection.
- Iterate designs to converge on the optimal balance of cost, manufacturability, finish, and performance.
- Specify materials, surface treatments, and finishes appropriate for high-end applications (watchmaking and similar).
- Collaborate with electronics, firmware, software, and system engineers to define technical requirements.
- Follow up with machining and injection-molding partners; validate first articles and production batches.
- Prepare technical documentation: drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions.
Nice to Have
- Contribute to electrical schematics and the wiring/assembly of electrical cabinets.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Microtechnology (HES / EPF), or a CFC followed by additional training and substantial relevant experience.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in precision mechanical design—ideally in high-finish industries (watchmaking, medical, aerospace instruments, scientific instruments).
- Hands-on experience designing for both fine machining and plastic injection molding.
- Proficiency with Fusion 360 (or strong CAD background and willingness to adopt it).
- Strong rigor in producing complete manufacturing drawings with proper tolerancing.
- Solution-oriented mindset: able to iterate and propose alternatives rather than declare a problem unsolvable.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Working proficiency in French; English a plus.
- Nice to have: basic electrical schematic skills and ability to wire/assemble electrical cabinets—apprenticeship level fully acceptable.
Benefits
- A stimulating and innovative work environment.
- Opportunities for professional development and continuous training.
- Competitive salary and attractive social benefits.
- Opportunity to work on diverse and exciting projects.
- Access to cutting-edge technologies and advanced technical resources.
- A collaborative and dedicated team.
