Mass Spectrometry / Proteomics Expert / Expertess

ETH Zürich - July 23, 2025

Join Our Team at the Functional Genomics Center Zurich

The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is a cutting-edge research and training facility established through a collaboration between ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. Equipped with the latest technologies and essential expertise for omics research, FGCZ provides comprehensive research services and project support to the Zurich life science research community.

About the Proteomics Unit

The FGCZ Proteomics Unit supports both internal and external research groups by offering a range of services, training, and access to instruments. Our analytical portfolio includes the identification, characterization, and quantification of proteins in cells, tissues, and body fluids. Collaborating closely with our Bioinformatics team, the Proteomics Unit oversees every aspect from initial consultation and experimental design to sample preparation, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) data acquisition, data processing, and final analysis. Additionally, the group benefits from the extensive support of IT and bioinformatics experts, as well as the metabolomics and genomics teams at FGCZ, facilitating multi-omics approaches.

Position Overview

We are seeking a new team member to join us at your earliest convenience or as mutually agreed upon. This position is offered as a fixed-term contract.

The successful candidate will be part of an international team of technical specialists operating within the FGCZ proteomics core facility. Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting LC-MS proteomics experiments independently, from sample preparation to data analysis.
  • Advising researchers on the optimal analytical approaches to address their research inquiries and guiding them throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Developing and implementing proteomics methods aligned with the strategic objectives of the unit.
  • Providing training and instruction to students and users on various proteomics techniques.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A PhD in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of practical experience in proteomics sample preparation, LC-MS/MS, data analysis, and data processing.
  • Proficiency in proteomics software tools such as DIA-NN, Spectronaut, and FragPipe.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact across disciplines with students and collaborators.
  • Experience in proteomics methods for analyzing post-translational modifications (e.g., phosphorylation, ubiquitination) and MS-based spatial proteomics. Basic programming skills and glycoproteomics experience are advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills, with adaptability to a dynamic analytical environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in English; knowledge of German is a plus.
  • A team player, ambitious, and eager to learn and contribute meaningfully through proteomics and protein analysis.
