Director of Marketing at EF Language Abroad

EF Language Abroad has three business units that have been enriching the experiences of people around the world for over 65 years: Language Travel, Academic Year Abroad, and International Language Schools. We are seeking a dynamic Director of Marketing to drive growth across these sectors.

This role operates at the intersection of creativity and analytics. It's about identifying and attracting new customers rather than maintaining the status quo. Your Responsibilities

  • Own the go-to-market strategy for our most promising growth initiatives, gaining deep insights into customer needs and market trends.
  • Collaborate closely with the Product Head and EF Language Abroad’s Head of Marketing, as well as Sales and Marketing Directors across global markets.
  • Team up with key leaders, including the VP of Digital Marketing and Creative Director, to convert strategic briefs into impactful marketing solutions.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with the Product Head, leading product marketing efforts and ensuring on-brand localization.
  • Foster collaboration with markets, sales, and central teams to comprehensively understand our offerings and target customers.
  • Drive positioning and messaging by overseeing the global positioning framework and messaging hierarchy for our products.
  • Lead Go-to-Market (GTM) strategies for launches and expansions, creating adaptable GTM playbooks.
  • Champion customer and market intelligence, owning insights about customer voices and competitive landscapes.
  • Partner with Product Heads on commercial enablement, creating effective sales tools and training materials for local marketing teams.
  • Own audience segmentation, crafting actionable briefs for channel teams.
  • Collaborate on pricing communication, turning pricing strategies into compelling market narratives.
  • Establish departmental KPIs to foster a culture of accountability and set clear marketing objectives.
  • Monitor industry trends to ensure EF remains competitive and future-proof.

Success Factors

  • 8–12 years of experience in product marketing, brand management, or GTM, preferably in education, travel, or subscription-based businesses.
  • Strong international experience with high emotional intelligence, adept at navigating cultural nuances for local relevance and global scalability.
  • Exceptional collaboration, networking, and strong communication skills.
  • Experience in planning, budgeting, and managing P&L.
  • Adept at crafting and presenting strategic briefs that resonate with creative and market teams.
  • Experience in designing and managing global GTM plans, collaborating with central brand and media teams.
  • Leadership in customer research and competitive intelligence.
  • Knowledge of various marketing channels, including paid, organic, SEO, social, and CRM.
  • A deep understanding of emerging trends in communication, media consumption, and marketing.
  • A natural ability to translate high-level strategies into tactical execution.
  • Curiosity about human behavior and communication.
  • Comfort in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • A refined eye for outstanding creative work and an understanding of what sets it apart.
  • A communication style that simplifies complexity and encourages action.
