Purpose of Position

You will oversee the entire hotel operation onboard, ensuring maximum guest satisfaction and fostering a pleasant working environment for all crew members. Your role includes adherence to Viking China Outbound Standards and budgets.

Assignments/Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire hotel operation onboard.
  • Ensure all hotel departments operate according to established standards.
  • Lead and motivate the crew, with particular attention to Department Heads.
  • Implement service procedures in line with company standards.
  • Order stock for the hotel department, including F&B, housekeeping, and equipment.
  • Maintain impeccable cleanliness, hygiene, and order in all areas of the hotel department in compliance with HACCP rules.
  • Conduct final inspections and receive all supplies and deliveries for the hotel department.
  • Supervise and organize the opening and closing of ships at the beginning and end of the season.
  • Engage actively with guests and effectively manage any complaints.
  • Participate in all onboard events and special functions.
  • Be present in the galley and restaurant during meal times.
  • Ensure smooth communication flow with the nautical department, onboard management, crew, and the Head Office in Basel.
  • Provide departmental training according to the requirement profile.
  • Monitor cost control and adherence to all set budgets.
  • Conduct daily analysis of debts in collaboration with the Receptionist/Night Auditor.
  • Perform stock takes and inventory following company procedures.
  • Actively participate in loadings.

Qualification Profile

  • Graduated education within the hotel industry, preferably from a hotel management school (tertiary degree in hotel management with an emphasis on F&B operations is preferred).
  • Several years of professional management experience in a similar role within the luxury hotel industry, preferably in the cruise sector.
  • Exceptional management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Guest-focused, stress-resistant, calm under pressure, team player with a positive demeanor.
  • Open-minded and flexible with strong social and intercultural competencies, along with a good understanding of Chinese culture, etiquette, and behavior in social and business contexts.
  • Excellent Mandarin skills and good English proficiency (both written and verbal); knowledge of additional languages (e.g., German) is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently, with good computer skills.
