What You Will Do
As a Loss Controller, you will join a global team supporting over 250 trading operators and traders worldwide. You will offer technical expertise and operational support on quantity and quality (Q&Q) aspects of crude oil, petroleum products, petrochemicals, LPG, biofuels, and bio feedstocks. Your contributions will play a critical role in crude loss analysis for the Refining & Chemicals business, directly safeguarding the Company’s financial interests by minimizing cargo losses, ensuring product quality, managing blending/doping operations, and reducing demurrage, inspection, and claims costs.
Your Responsibilities Include
- Field Expertise:
- Inspect and evaluate storage terminals to assess operational practices, technical reliability, and safety performance, thus minimizing quantity, quality, and safety risks.
- Conduct storage technical visits on behalf of traders or management.
- Perform field missions to meticulously monitor complex transportation logistics, preserving the Company's interests.
- Attend critical loading and discharging operations to enhance operational outcomes while ensuring compliance with international standards and best practices.
- Operational Support:
- Provide daily technical advice to traders and trading operators on Q&Q issues during loading/unloading and transport, including specific operations such as tank preparation for cargo compatibility.
- Monitor cargo quantity and quality closely throughout the logistics chain, ensuring compliance with contractual specifications and providing appropriate responses to off-specification or cargo-loss situations.
- Maintain strong networks and good communication with operators and traders, anticipating issues and proposing operational solutions.
- Oversee the entire blending process, coordinating with laboratories, traders, and operators to ensure accuracy from theory to execution.
- Engage in technical decisions related to the use of additives and other product modifications.
- Inspection & Superintendent Companies Coordination:
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of inspection companies, recommending necessary improvements.
- Assist Management in fostering relationships, negotiating rates, and establishing global agreements with loss control service providers.
- Support the preparation of tenders or RFPs for inspection and superintendent services.
- Knowledge Maintenance & Networking:
- Stay up to date with international rules, guidelines, standards, and regulations concerning quality testing and quantity measurement.
- Conduct internal training sessions to ensure a consistent baseline of Loss Control knowledge across Trading Operations.
- Occasionally accompany trading operators on field missions as part of their professional development.
- Contribute to internal analyses or statistical reporting on product movements and quality trends.
- Represent TotalEnergies in technical committees, working groups, and industry bodies concerning transportation and product quality regulations.
- Claims Handling:
- Defend the Company's interests on Q&Q-related claims with trading partners and service providers.
- Prepare and administer crude claims for both T&S and Refining & Chemicals.
- Support operators in insurance claim procedures as necessary.
Context and Environment
In this dynamic trading environment, you will engage with trading operators, traders, managers, shipping teams, terminal personnel, superintendents, and inspection companies. The role demands rapid decision-making, technical rigor, and exceptional communication skills.
The position requires:
- Frequent international travel, sometimes on short notice.
- Availability to intervene outside normal working hours (nights, weekends, holidays) when immediate operational support is necessary.
- The ability to provide swift, precise technical advice during time-critical operations that have a direct impact on commercial outcomes.
