The IT Service Group (ISGINF) serves as the internal IT service provider for the Department of Computer Science at ETH Zurich, which has established itself as one of the world's leading academic institutions in the field of computer science through excellent research and teaching. To strengthen our team, we are seeking a Linux System Engineer (80%-100%) to join us immediately or by arrangement.

Our nine-member team manages the department's IT infrastructure, specifically tailored to meet the needs of the professorships and research groups. Together with researchers, we continuously develop our systems and applications, leveraging the latest technologies.

Job Description

In this varied role, you will take on significant responsibilities and actively contribute to designing innovative solutions. Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Classic system administration: installation of computers, configuration management, troubleshooting, and updates
  • Development, maintenance, and operation of IT services
  • Programming of tools, interfaces, and web applications
  • Operation of our Kubernetes clusters and provision of applications
  • Collaboration with researchers on projects and IT issues
  • Contributing to our Ansible-based Linux infrastructure
  • Regular duty at the service desk

Your first specific task will be to take over and rebuild our GitLab-based version control and DevOps platform for the department.

Profile

  • Completed training in computer science or a related field
  • Solid knowledge in Linux system administration, scripting languages, and programming
  • Practical experience in the conception and implementation of IT solutions
  • Independent and structured working style, resilience, and high initiative
  • Team player with a communicative personality
  • Willingness for continuous further education
  • Good German and English skills for effective communication with customers
