ETH Student Project House

If you are passionate about shaping, growing, and structuring opportunities for young innovators in the fields of life sciences and biology, this is an incredible opportunity for you!

At the ETH Student Project House, we inspire and empower students to develop a maker and innovator mindset. We believe that by exploring their ideas and creating their own projects, students gain invaluable hands-on experience and learn essential skills for their future. That’s why we’ve established an ecosystem where students are encouraged to explore, ideate, build, test, and refine their prototypes.

Our interdisciplinary team of thirty individuals supports students with the necessary tools and expertise to pursue their passions and create impactful projects. We boast a well-equipped Makerspace filled with tools and equipment for prototyping. To elevate projects further, we offer a co-working space, a laboratory, and coaching. We are committed to accompanying students on their journey, inspiring them to start their projects, seek diverse perspectives, understand the real needs behind their ideas, collaborate effectively, think ambitiously, learn from failures, pivot when necessary, and navigate obstacles along the way.

Join Our Team

With our continued growth, we are seeking a dedicated person to enhance our offerings in the Life Science Lab. This position offers a unique chance to play a central role in the ongoing success of the ETH Student Project House and to positively impact the lives of countless students.

Your Role

As part of the Life Science Lab, currently consisting of three team members, you’ll focus on developing and scaling our offerings to support student life science projects through:

  • Scaling and Managing Processes: Scale up and manage our newly developed laboratory offerings. After a successful pilot, we are now implementing it as a core service, expanding the number of active student projects while ensuring smooth processes and accurate data tracking.
  • Designing and Implementing New Offerings: Identify student needs and create content that attracts participation, such as workshops introducing new technologies or equipment.
  • Lab Work Supervision and Guidance: Supervise and guide students in the laboratory, ensuring safety and helping them advance their projects, which may extend to evenings.
  • Community Building: Foster a vibrant life science community, identifying relevant external events and stakeholders while promoting our offerings in collaboration with our Marketing Manager.

Your Qualifications

You bring a unique combination of scientific knowledge and innovative experience, balancing creativity and enthusiasm with attention to detail:

  • A scientific background in neuroscience, chemistry, environmental engineering, plant science, sensory science, process engineering, or a related field.
  • A Master's degree or PhD, preferably from ETH Zurich.
  • Previous laboratory experience and comfort in supervising students.
  • At least three years of work experience in life science and innovation, ideally in roles such as founder, team lead, manager, coach, consultant, scientist, or product developer.
  • Strong management skills to ensure our services and processes are clear and scalable for over 100 students each year.
  • A passion for working with students and supporting their development as makers and innovators.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of German is a plus.

Application Process

We offer a one-year contract with the potential for extension. While fixed-term contracts are standard at ETH, this position is financially secure in the long run.
