Job Purpose

The Learning Support Assistant will work closely with a senior school student who has a neurodiverse learning profile, focusing on their access to the curriculum, organization, independence, and social-emotional wellbeing.

The successful candidate will collaborate with teachers, the Learning Support team, pastoral staff, and parents to ensure the student fully participates in academic and community life. Experience working with neurodiverse learners, such as those with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, or other specific learning needs, would be advantageous. This position is expected to involve approximately 25-35 hours of work per week and is term-time only.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized support within a classroom setting and on a one-to-one basis to enable the student to engage in learning activities.
  • Establish a positive, respectful, and supportive relationship with the student to promote confidence and independence.
  • Support the development of effective organization and planning skills, including time management and task initiation.
  • Assist the student in understanding instructions and maintaining focus during lessons.
  • Promote the student’s social and emotional development, aiding them in managing stress and interpersonal situations.
  • Assist with transitions between lessons and activities as needed.
  • Encourage student independence while providing appropriate scaffolding and guidance.

Support for Teachers and the Learning Support Team

  • Collaborate with teachers and the Learning Support department to implement agreed strategies.
  • Monitor and report on the student’s engagement and learning needs.
  • Provide feedback regarding the effectiveness of strategies and accommodations.
  • Assist teachers in adapting materials to support the student's learning.

Support for the School

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and parents.
  • Ensure confidentiality while facilitating effective communication among stakeholders.
  • Engage in professional development and uphold the ethos of Aiglon College.
