Verbier International School - Director of Sport

Verbier International School (VIS) is a rapidly growing and ambitious international school nestled in the breathtaking Swiss Alps. As part of the Dukes Education family, VIS seamlessly blends academic rigor with exceptional pastoral care, outdoor education, and a unique mountain ethos.

Due to continued expansion, we are seeking an outstanding Director of Sport to lead and enhance our whole-school sports programme starting in September 2026. This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring the successful candidate to build structures, drive standards, and deliver a competitive, well-organized sports programme that reflects the school's ambitions.

About VIS

  • Academic ambition
  • High expectations and clear routines
  • Strong pastoral systems
  • Inclusive practice
  • Professional accountability

As the school grows rapidly in both student numbers and reputation, we have a clear strategic plan for continued development.

The Role

  • Work closely with the Head of Competitive Sport to ensure alignment between participation sport and elite performance pathways
  • Collaborate with pastoral and academic teams to support student athletes
  • Manage risk, safeguarding, and compliance within all sporting activities
  • Build strong relationships with families and partner organizations

Sport plays a central role in life at VIS, with our alpine environment offering exceptional opportunities, including a large and competitive ski race programme that is integral to our identity. The ability to teach IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science would be an added advantage. This role requires excellent organizational skills, clear systems, and the capability to manage a growing and ambitious programme across the entire school.

We are looking for a colleague who:

  • Has proven experience leading sports within a structured and competitive school environment
  • Understands how to build and manage large, fixture-based sports programmes
  • Is confident in managing staff, logistics, and performance expectations
  • Can integrate participation sport with high-performance pathways
  • Is capable of contributing academically, particularly if they can teach IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with parents and colleagues
  • Sets high standards for both staff and students
  • Thrives in a growing school environment where systems are still being developed and refined
  • Possesses international school experience, which is advantageous

  • The opportunity to shape sports during a period of expansion
  • A supportive and ambitious team
  • Life in one of Europe’s leading alpine resorts
