Job Opportunity: Lead Mechatronics Engineer at the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine

The Laboratory of Molecular Medicine, led by Prof. Yohei Yamauchi, is at the forefront of innovation with the development of the ViViD-AFM V2.0—a next-generation nano-imaging system. This project emphasizes the transition from academic prototypes to commercial-grade industrial systems while ensuring complete IP independence from legacy V1.0 patents.

We are currently seeking a visionary Lead Mechatronics Engineer to drive the design and development of the V2.0 system, collaborating closely with our Lead Architect. This pivotal role is part of a strategic initiative to create a high-speed AFM system tailored for advanced biological research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hardware Realization: Translate abstract architectural requirements into functional ViViD-AFM V2.0 mechatronic hardware.
  • Precision Engineering: Design and implement sub-nanometer control systems and high-precision scanning devices.
  • Specialized Mechatronics: Proven track record in the physical realization of high-speed AFM hardware specifically for soft cell surfaces.
  • Control Systems: Expert-level knowledge of sub-nanometer control systems, exceeding general mechatronic capabilities.
  • Collaborative Design: Demonstrated ability to work closely with architects to address complex system integration challenges.
  • Academic/Industrial Background: Experience in high-precision scanning mechanisms and transitioning research to industrial applications.
  • Technical Synchronization: Maintain direct technical alignment with the Lead Architect for seamless hardware, software, and architectural integration.
  • Prototyping: Oversee the evolution from early-stage hardware components to a fully integrated commercial-grade device.

This position presents a unique opportunity to bridge high-level academic research at ETH Zurich with the dynamic atmosphere of a high-tech startup. You will lead the architectural development of a pioneering system poised to redefine nano-imaging. Our highly collaborative environment welcomes your expertise and creativity as we support your transition into the spin-off phase.
