Introduction
A career in IBM Consulting fosters long-term relationships and close collaboration with clients worldwide. You will engage with visionaries across various industries to enhance the hybrid and AI journey for some of the most innovative and valuable companies globally.
Your ability to drive impact and create meaningful change for your clients is bolstered by our strategic partner ecosystem and robust technology platforms across the IBM portfolio, including IBM Software and Red Hat. Curiosity and a relentless pursuit of knowledge are the cornerstones of success in IBM Consulting. In your role, you will be empowered to challenge conventions, explore ideas outside your immediate responsibilities, and develop creative solutions that yield groundbreaking impacts for a diverse network of clients. Our culture of evolution and empathy focuses on long-term career growth and development opportunities within an environment that values your distinct skills and experience.
In this capacity, you will work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we provide deep technical and industry expertise to a wide array of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers equip clients with locally-based skills and technical know-how to foster innovation and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
Your Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Lead AutoGen Engineer with extensive experience in Autogen, who has advanced beyond constructing RAG pipelines to design systems that make agentic AI reliable in regulated, high-stakes environments for both client-facing and internal platforms.
This position is ideal for someone who has grappled with the complexities of regulatory language, built an agentic workflow from the ground up, and approaches LLM outputs with the same analytical mindset as a systems engineer concerning correctness guarantees. This hands-on technical leadership role demands someone who designs and constructs production-grade agentic systems — not merely as a research endeavor, but as engineering deliverables that operate reliably within compliance-driven, high-stakes environments. The challenges you will tackle will not have off-the-shelf solutions. You will be anticipated to make architectural decisions, iterate when initial designs prove inadequate, and communicate those decisions effectively to both technical teams and enterprise stakeholders.
What You Will Do
- Design and deliver RAG systems for complex, document-heavy domains, defining ingestion strategies, retrieval architectures, and generation-side optimizations suitable for the content type and use case.
- Architect multi-agent orchestration systems that coordinate specialized agents utilizing autogen and other frameworks across parallel and sequential workflows, incorporating structured quality evaluation and targeted correction loops into the pipeline.
- Build LLM routing and evaluation infrastructure, selecting models per task, optimizing generation parameters, and ensuring full auditability of outputs for regulated delivery environments.
- Lead the end-to-end technical delivery process: from problem framing and system design to implementation, quality assurance, and stakeholder communication.
- Work across regulated industries, including life sciences, insurance, and financial services, understanding the practical implications of compliance, traceability, and domain accuracy.
- Evaluate and apply fine-tuning approaches when retrieval-based solutions are inadequate, with the discernment to know when each approach is appropriate.
- Mentor engineers and establish technical standards for agentic AI development within the practice.
- Collaborate with client stakeholders to translate complex domain requirements into functional system behaviors.
What We Offer
- Individual career path opportunities
- Access to numerous training and certification offerings
- A culture of knowledge sharing
- An environment that encourages you to actively contribute your ideas
- The potential to work on projects within one of the largest IT companies
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Proven experience (8 years+) in building and iterating production-grade agentic systems across the entire stack — ingestion, retrieval, orchestration, generation, and quality assurance.
- Deep understanding of statistics, probability, data science, machine learning, and transformer architectures.
- Strong expertise in multi-agent frameworks, designing orchestration patterns, parallel agent architectures, feedback loops, and structured output pipelines.
- Extensive knowledge of data ingestion and RAG pipeline designs across diverse content types, retrieval strategies, and generation optimization techniques.
- Proven ability in delivering agentic systems end-to-end to production pipelines in regulated industries.
- Experience integrating multiple LLM providers with routing logic, audit logging, and parameter optimization for enterprise and regulated contexts.
- Advanced skills in prompt and context engineering.
- Expertise in integrating agentic solutions with cloud platforms such as Azure OpenAI, IBM Watsonx, and AWS while ensuring governance, safety, and monitoring.
- Proficient in Python and relevant engineering tools; cloud platform experience across AWS and GCP.
- Track record of delivering agentic systems with measurable operational impact for enterprise clients in regulated industries.
- Advanced database skills across SQL (MySQL, SQL Server), NoSQL (MongoDB, Neo4j), and VectorDBs (CosmosDB, Azure AI Search, FAISS).
- Ability to lead small technical teams, set direction, and maintain delivery quality across complex engagements.
- Strong communication skills, capable of presenting architectural decisions and system behaviors to non-technical audiences, including clinical, regulatory, and business stakeholders.
- Language proficiency in Hindi and English is essential for effective coordination with teams engaged in projects.
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
- Experience with clinical or regulatory document workflows, such as pharmaceutical submissions, compliance reporting, or structured document generation at scale.
- Experience working with IBM's agentic asset portfolio.
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and emerging agentic interoperability standards, agentic skills, and tools.
- Multi-agent system design showcasing breadth of application beyond a single domain.
