LABORATORY ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT

JOB DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION:

Laboratory Administration Assistant.

RESPONSIBLE TO:

The Operations Manager or nominee.

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Complying with all Company rules, policies, procedures, Spectro Methods, and codes of practice.
  • Wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment provided.
  • Maintaining quality control checks and good housekeeping practices in each area of responsibility.
  • Ensuring that laboratory equipment is calibrated and fit for use before operation.

LIMIT OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Purchase requisitions shall be countersigned by an authorized signatory. The job holder is only authorized to operate equipment for which they have current and up-to-date approval.

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for receiving and unpacking laboratory samples and booking them into the database. The Laboratory Administration Assistant will support Laboratory Technicians by assisting with the collection of test results and entering data into the computer database. This role is essential to the Quality System, requiring processes to be completed efficiently to enable Laboratory Technicians to meet turnaround times for samples.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

As part of the team, the Laboratory Administration Assistant will carry out a variety of duties as directed. Some of the responsibilities may involve manual lifting and the use of a respirator:

  • Receiving and unpacking samples.
  • Receiving and communicating deliveries, distributing as needed.
  • Booking samples into the database.
  • Pouring samples for testing.
  • Maintaining label supplies.
  • Assisting with sample disposal.
  • Supporting Laboratory Assistants and/or Laboratory Technicians.
  • Maintaining accurate records.
  • Processing test samples.
  • Keeping the booking-in area clean and organized.
  • Assisting with clearing packaging to the waste area.
  • Liaising between the Booking-in, Reporting, and Laboratory teams.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be an accurate, careful, and methodical worker.
  • Be able to work to deadlines.
  • Possess neat handwriting and demonstrate a good standard of Mathematics and English (both written and spoken).
  • Be PC literate with some experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Work well in a team and communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Exhibit a flexible attitude towards assigned tasks.
  • Be familiar with and committed to quality assurance processes.

Previous experience in goods-in, booking-in, or data entry environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
