Laboratory Technician

The successful candidate will play a vital role in product testing, research and development activities, and laboratory operations within a dynamic technical environment.
The Laboratory Technician Role
As a Trainee or Graduate Laboratory Technician, you will assist with Research & Development activities by testing and analyzing products and raw materials. You will also support new product development projects and help maintain high laboratory standards. Collaborating closely with the wider technical team, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting testing of products and raw materials using various analytical and laboratory techniques.
- Carrying out material characterization and analysis while accurately recording and reporting results.
- Supporting Research & Development projects through product testing and evaluation.
- Assisting with the development and enhancement of specialist formulations and materials.
- Evaluating alternative raw materials and supporting product optimization activities.
- Preparing laboratory samples and test specimens.
- Completing COSHH assessments and maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Supporting customer product trials as necessary.
- Following laboratory procedures, quality standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring that laboratory areas remain clean, organized, and compliant.
- Producing accurate technical reports and communicating findings to the wider team.
- Ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Level 4 qualification in a scientific discipline.
- Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential.
- Understanding of laboratory testing techniques and scientific processes.
- Experience within a manufacturing, materials, chemical, or technical environment is advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Enthusiastic and proactive approach to work.
- Strong team player with a collaborative mindset.
Additional Salary Information
This permanent position, based in Barnsley, pays £25,000 per year, based on a 36.25-hour work week. This role is ideal for graduates or candidates with a scientific or chemistry background who are eager to develop their careers within a progressive manufacturing and technical environment.
