THE POSITION
Laboratory Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO
As per the Employment Contract.
RESPONSIBLE FOR
- Complying with the Company's methods, rules, procedures, policies, and codes of practice.
- Wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment provided.
- Carrying out various duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager or nominee.
- Maintaining Company and Customer confidentiality.
- Ensuring quality control checks and practicing good housekeeping.
LIMIT OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Present all purchase orders to the Laboratory Manager or nominee for authorization.
- Not dispatch Test Results unless authorized by a signature from an Approved Signatory.
- Operate only laboratory equipment for which the job holder has approval.
SUMMARY
After training, assist with sample preparation and testing to enable the Laboratory Technicians/Analysts to review the results and report them to the clients.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
As part of a dynamic team, you will perform various duties as directed, which may include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the preparation of samples.
- Assisting with laboratory testing.
- Assisting with the dispatch of test reports.
- Carrying out general laboratory housekeeping duties, such as:
- Washing laboratory glassware
- Disposing of used oil samples
- Sweeping the floor
- Tidying and cleaning work benches
- Some tasks may require physical lifting and the use of a respirator (e.g., fetching and carrying chemicals to and from the Chemical Store).

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- An interest in Chemistry.
- A careful and methodical approach to work.
- A flexible attitude toward the types of work undertaken.
- The ability to meet deadlines and work outside standard hours if necessary.
- Neat handwriting; proficiency in written and spoken English is preferred.
- Basic numeracy skills.
- Some keyboard experience.
