THE POSITION
Laboratory Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO
As per the Employment Contract.
RESPONSIBLE FOR
- Complying with the Company's methods, rules, procedures, policies, and codes of practice.
- Wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment provided.
- Carrying out various duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager or nominee.
- Maintaining Company and Customer confidentiality.
- Conducting quality control checks and adhering to good housekeeping practices.
LIMIT OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Present all purchase orders to the Laboratory Manager or nominee for authorization.
- Do not dispatch Test Results unless they are authorized by a signature from an Approved Signatory.
- Operate only laboratory equipment for which the job holder has received approval.
SUMMARY
After training, assist with sample preparation and testing to enable the Laboratory Technicians and Analysts to review the results and report them to the clients.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Join our team and carry out a variety of duties as directed. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the preparation of samples.
- Assisting with laboratory testing.
- Assisting with the dispatch of test reports.
- Performing general laboratory housekeeping duties, such as:
- Washing laboratory glassware.
- Disposing of used oil samples.
- Sweeping the floor.
- Tidying and cleaning bench areas.
- Some tasks will require physical lifting and the wearing of a respirator, such as fetching and carrying chemicals to and from the Chemical Store.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- A genuine interest in Chemistry.
- A careful and methodical approach to work.
- A flexible attitude towards various types of tasks.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work outside standard hours when required.
- Neat handwriting (written and spoken English skills are advantageous).
- Basic numeracy skills.
- Some familiarity with keyboard usage.
