THE POSITION
Laboratory Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO
As per the Employment Contract.
RESPONSIBLE FOR
- Complying with the Company methods, rules, procedures, policies, and codes of practice.
- Wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment provided.
- Carrying out various duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager or nominee.
- Maintaining Company and Customer confidentiality.
- Maintaining quality control checks and good housekeeping practices.
LIMIT OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Present all purchase orders to the Laboratory Manager or nominee for authorization.
- Not dispatch Test Results unless they are authorized by a signature from an Approved Signatory.
- Operate only laboratory equipment for which the job holder has received approval.
SUMMARY
After training, assist with sample preparation and testing, enabling the Laboratory Technicians/Analysts to review the results and report them to clients.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Become part of a team and carry out various duties as directed, which may include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the preparation of samples.
- Assisting with laboratory testing.
- Assisting with the dispatch of test reports.
- Carrying out general laboratory housekeeping duties, which may include:
- Washing laboratory glassware
- Disposing of used oil samples
- Sweeping the floor
- Tidying and cleaning down benches
- Note that part of the work requires physical lifting and the wearing of a respirator (e.g., fetching/carrying chemicals to and from the Chemical Store).

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
The job holder should:
- Have an interest in Chemistry.
- Be a careful and methodical worker.
- Exhibit a flexible attitude towards the type of work undertaken.
- Be able to meet deadlines and work outside standard hours when necessary.
- Possess neat handwriting (written and spoken English would be useful).
- Have basic numeracy skills.
- Have some keyboard experience.
