THE POSITION
Laboratory Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO
As per the Employment Contract.
RESPONSIBLE FOR
- Complying with the Company methods, rules, procedures, policies, and codes of practice.
- Wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment provided.
- Carrying out the various duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager or nominee.
- Maintaining Company and Customer confidentiality.
- Maintaining quality control checks and good housekeeping practices.
LIMIT OF RESPONSIBILITY
The job holder shall:
- Present all purchase orders to the Laboratory Manager or nominee for authorization.
- Not dispatch Test Results unless they are authorized by a signature from an Approved Signatory.
- Operate only laboratory equipment for which the job holder has approval.
SUMMARY
After training, you will assist with sample preparation and testing to enable the Laboratory Technicians and Analysts to review and report results to clients.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
As part of our dynamic team, your duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the preparation of samples.
- Assisting with laboratory testing.
- Assisting with the dispatch of test reports.
- Carrying out general laboratory housekeeping duties, which may include:
- Washing laboratory glassware
- Disposing of used oil samples
- Sweeping the floor
- Tidying and cleaning down benches
- Some tasks will involve physical lifting and the wearing of a respirator, such as fetching and carrying chemicals to and from the Chemical Store.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
The job holder shall:
- Have an interest in Chemistry.
- Be a careful and methodical worker.
- Display a flexible attitude towards various tasks.
- Work to deadlines and be willing to work outside standard hours when necessary.
- Exhibit neat handwriting (proficiency in written and spoken English would be beneficial).
- Possess basic numeracy skills.
- Have some keyboard experience.
