Job Opportunity: Lab Manager and Scientific Coordinator

The Biomedical and Mobile Health Technology (BMHT) Lab at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology, ETH Zurich, is an interdisciplinary research group specializing in material science, engineering, and computing. Our lab is at the forefront of developing sensing technologies for electronic textiles, with applications in sports and health. To enhance our operations, we are seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the role of Lab Manager and Scientific Coordinator, focusing on material science and electronics for electronic textiles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising and coordinating scientific staff, and managing collaborations with research partners.
  • Support the lab’s teaching activities and ensure compliance with lab safety standards in line with Swiss and ETH Zurich regulations.
  • Help develop and maintain group-specific Safety Concepts, coordinate safety training, and oversee compliance audits.
  • Provide technical oversight for ongoing research projects, ensuring alignment with lab objectives.
  • Support the next generation of scientists (PhD students, postdocs) by fostering a collaborative research environment.
  • Coordinate and supervise research students, offering scientific support for projects related to wearable technologies and electronic textiles.
  • Participate in teaching activities, including delivering lectures and advising students in the lab’s research areas.
  • Manage lab facilities, including procurement, equipment usage coordination, and inventory management.
  • Assist in grant reporting and ensure the smooth operation of lab facilities and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physical Chemistry.
  • University-level teaching experience in electronics.
  • Experience as a Group Safety Representative (GSR) with a focus on safety audits.
  • Proven expertise in electronic textiles, triboelectric nanogenerators, and non-invasive wearable devices.
  • Experience in procuring scientific equipment and grant writing/reporting.
  • Practical knowledge of lab safety and experience during safety audits.
  • Proficiency in English and at least one official language of the Swiss Confederation.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring student theses and projects.
  • A strong record of scientific publications.
  • Excellent teamwork, organizational, and planning skills, with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong social and leadership competencies for effective collaboration in an academic environment.

You will be under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Carlo Menon at ETH Zurich, leading a team dedicated to finding innovative solutions to real-world problems. Located at the Balgrist Campus, our lab is designed to promote collaboration and foster interdisciplinary research.
