Junior Strategist in Education

To strengthen our team, we are seeking a committed and analytically strong individual for the role of Junior Strategist in Education. In this key position, you will help shape strategic initiatives aimed at further developing teaching at ETH Zurich. You will support cross-functional projects, analyze education policy-relevant data, and assist in translating insights into impactful recommendations. Project Background

As a Junior Strategist in Education, you will support data-informed strategic development within the teaching domain at ETH Zurich. Your core focus will involve contributing to project-based and applied research through qualitative and quantitative analyses. This will include structured interviews, surveys, and data exploration to inform strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality and future readiness of ETH Zurich’s teaching.

Your responsibilities will encompass preparing briefings, conducting background research, and supporting institutional projects that aim to enhance educational effectiveness and address long-term challenges, such as rising student numbers and resource constraints.

In close collaboration with Senior Strategists and Business/Data Analysts, you will conduct first-round analyses, prepare summaries of stakeholder insights, and help design evaluation instruments that clarify workload, staffing, and infrastructure needs across ETH's diverse teaching formats. You will contribute to various projects such as QdL (Quantification of Teaching Loads), PAKETH (Reform of ETH’s academic calendar and examination system), Digital Campus, and Strategy for Teaching Staff, helping ETH better capture, interpret, and act on evidence about its educational system.

This is a fixed-term position for one year.

Job Description

  • Conduct interviews, design and run surveys, and summarize findings to support structured research on key teaching topics.
  • Prepare and interpret raw data (e.g., Excel, survey platforms) to assist the senior team in deriving strategic insights.
  • Help collect and interpret data regarding exams, assessments, TA/SA usage, and department needs for improved staff planning.
  • Coordinate teaching format and infrastructure-related data needs with internal stakeholders such as Digital Campus, PAKETH, and PBLabs.
  • Support mapping of parameters for teaching analytics, ensuring future systems capture necessary teaching-related data.
  • Conduct basic comparative analyses (e.g., ETH vs. Swiss peers), support internal reviews, and draft concise research summaries.
  • Assist in preparing materials and documenting insights from stakeholder engagements (e.g., UTL, departments, central services).

Profile

  • Master's degree in education, public policy, social sciences, natural sciences, computer sciences, or related field.
  • Initial experience in higher education, academic administration, educational development, or strategy-related roles (internships or assistant roles acceptable).
  • Familiarity with mixed-methods research approaches (e.g., interviews, surveys, data triangulation) and a demonstrated interest in applying them to educational questions.
  • Strong writing and synthesis skills to translate complex findings into accessible summaries or recommendations.
  • Interest in translating data into insights for educational policy, teaching support, and resource planning.
  • Basic programming or data handling skills (e.g., Excel, R, Python, or survey tools) are an advantage.
  • Professional fluency in English (German is an advantage).

  • Ability to support consultations and stakeholder engagement activities with professionalism and discretion.
  • Personal attributes: Curious and reflective, with a strong analytical mindset and the ability to collaborate respectfully with a wide range of stakeholders in a complex academic environment.
