Job Overview

The International Marketing Lead for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is responsible for overseeing all ex-North America marketing deliverables for SPINRAZA. To facilitate the ongoing growth of the brand, the incumbent will mentor the SMA Marketing team in refining short- to medium-term marketing strategies, ensuring effective execution within the specified timelines. Collaborating under the leadership of the International Commercial Lead and working alongside cross-functional partners from the Innovation Center of Excellence (iCoE), the International Marketing Lead will enhance the understanding of market dynamics in key affiliates, support the co-creation of new branded and unbranded materials, share best practices, manage above-market initiatives, and facilitate learning journeys on new content.

This role demands an inspiring leader who serves as a model for the International SPINRAZA brand team. The ideal candidate must possess a passion for understanding both external and internal customer needs, as well as market intelligence to craft a clearly differentiated marketing strategy underpinned by effective execution.

The International Marketing Lead is a high-impact, hands-on creative leader accountable for critical tactics within the marketing strategy and cross-functional execution. This individual must effectively connect and engage stakeholders, navigate the nuances of European and Intercontinental markets, and coordinate and drive key activities across matrixed and geographically dispersed teams, ensuring successful strategy execution.

Principal Accountabilities

  • SPINRAZA Marketing

    • Drive marketing core initiatives and above-market deliverables from concept to deployment.
    • Own the SPINRAZA marketing plan from insight to action through iterative development.
    • Develop concept initiatives and deliverables in alignment with the annual tactical plan, including face-to-face, digital, and congresses/events.
    • Manage project plans ensuring that committed milestones are achieved on time and within budget through effective project management.
    • Collaborate with creative agencies and internal digital resources to design branded and unbranded assets while aligning with marketing leads from key countries.
    • Execute PRC reviews in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SoP) for above-market material creation.
    • Develop internal communication plans for the deployment of initiatives or material releases.
    • Gather insights into local operational models and customer needs through congress participation and engagement in local customer-facing activities.
  • Affiliates Engagement

    • Lead the International Therapeutic Area Forums (ITAF) to communicate brand strategy, disseminate tactical outputs, and collect market and competitive insights, as well as affiliate needs within iCoE.
    • Conduct individual affiliate "1:1s" to better understand unique market dynamics and needs.
    • Encourage the exchange of best practices and shared knowledge to coach and support affiliates, ensuring organizational efficiency.
  • Execution Excellence

    • Drive execution excellence in alignment with the SMA brand strategy and messaging.
    • Mentor junior marketers and product managers to ensure international consistency in branding and messaging throughout above-market initiatives and deliverables.
    • Create the marketing tactical plan, leading through the Integrated Commercial Plan (ICP) and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) during the annual planning process.

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry; experience with rare diseases is preferred.
  • Experience with global/regional commercial launches and business operations.
  • Proven expertise in developing cross-functional brand plans that support positioning, competitive messaging, and tactical development.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and leadership skills, alongside a creative and problem-solving mindset.
  • Previous sales experience or roles involving high levels of customer interaction are highly valued; pipeline or commercial development experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to quickly identify key priorities, align strategic and tactical plans, and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Strong capabilities in planning, organization, analytics, decision-making, and problem-solving.
