About Us
As the University’s competence hub for sustainability transformations, the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) fosters interdisciplinary research, implementation, and teaching focused on transformation and sustainable development. We define our research agenda through long-standing North-South partnerships, emphasizing transformative science and transdisciplinary approaches. While research is at the heart of our activities, we also have a proven record in hands-on implementation, education for sustainable development, and science-policy-society engagement.
Duties
Collaboration in various teams and activities, both research and implementation:
- Desk research and information procurement
- Bibliography management
- Programming of surveys and preliminary data analysis
- Assistance in qualitative data analysis
- Assistance in concept development
- Support in elaborating funding proposals
- Assistance in developing tools and methodologies for our educational programmes
- Internal communication and collaboration with national and international project partners
Management support for the Directorate includes:
- Coordination and documentation of various thematic and structural domains
- Administrative and management tasks (e.g., controlling, coordination, planning, reporting)
- Support for event planning (e.g., preparation of networking events, policy dialogue, etc.)
- Assistance with communication tasks, including online and social media
- Organizing meetings and taking qualified minutes
The advertised positions will be engaged across a range of CDE projects, both in Switzerland and abroad.
Requirements
- BSc or currently studying for an MSc in social sciences (economics, sociology, geography, political science, development studies, sustainable development); environmental sciences; humanities (educational science, history, psychology, linguistics, social anthropology); or law.
- Knowledge and/or strong interest in sustainability transformations (including but not limited to environmental policy, food systems, value chains, international agriculture, inequality, development economics, commons).
- Affinity for data visualization.
- Willingness to communicate and collaborate within an international and interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication skills in German and English, both in written and spoken forms; a second Swiss national language and/or Spanish is an asset.
- Very good knowledge of standard office programs, online communication tools, and basic statistics software. Experience with ArcGIS is an advantage.
