The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) is a National Research Infrastructure jointly founded by EPFL and ETH Zurich, forming a vital part of the ETH Domain. Our mission is to support academic labs, hospitals, industry, and public sector stakeholders—including cantonal and federal administrations—through every phase of the data science journey, from data collection and management to machine learning, AI, and industrialization.
With a diverse multidisciplinary team of professionals located across Lausanne, Zurich, and Villigen, the SDSC provides unparalleled expertise and services in various fields, including health and biomedical sciences, energy and sustainability, climate and environment, and large-scale scientific infrastructures.
As part of our collaboration with experts in architecture and engineering, we have developed a tool called AIXD for AI-assisted forward and inverse design. Our current focus is to create a plugin that enables Virtual Reality (VR) exploration of the design space, enhancing the interpretability and understanding of the possibilities and constraints involved in the design process. This project entails integrating additional embedding models into the AIXD Python core to capture the structural organization of geometries within the design space.
We are offering an exciting internship within our Research Team at SDSC to further explore embedding models, implement and evaluate new features for the AIXD toolbox. You will collaborate closely with domain experts and fellow data scientists to ensure the successful development of these innovative AIXD features. As part of our dynamic team at SDSC, you will work on applying machine learning methods to various domains, from environmental sciences to political science, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of how these methods are harnessed in interdisciplinary research.
This internship is a 5-month opportunity at the SDSC Zürich office located in Oerlikon, with an immediate start date available. You will join a stimulating collaborative environment at a world-class research institution, working alongside a team of 40 data scientists from over 15 different countries, all dedicated to applying and developing novel ML methods to tackle real-world challenges.
We value work-life balance and promote a culture of experimentation and creativity, actively encouraging the learning of new technologies and methodologies on the job.
