Role Overview
As an Instrumentation Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, improvement, and lifecycle support of gas turbine instrumentation. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust, reliable, and high-performance instrumentation solutions.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop new gas turbine instrumentation and enhance existing systems.
- Analyze new engine requirements, project tenders, and customer contracts; consolidate instrumentation needs.
- Drive the development of new instrumentation, from specification and design through to assembly, implementation, commissioning, testing, monitoring, and validation.
- Oversee the complete measurement chain and ensure correct alignment of instrumentation with related system interfaces.
- Advise designers in creating and updating instrumentation documentation and integration into the product structure.
- Provide product support and act as the primary contact for instrumentation-related issues from field service, new units, suppliers, manufacturing, quality assurance, and power plant erection or commissioning.
- Perform root-cause analysis and technical problem-solving, including analysis of instrumentation signals and machine operational data.
Your Profile
- University degree in mechanical engineering, preferably with a focus on aerospace, mechatronics, robotics, turbomachinery, process technology, or energy technology.
- Strong knowledge in sensor integration design and measurement-chain engineering for harsh environments.
- Preferably, experience with dynamic measurement chains for rotor vibration and acoustics.
- Practical experience in power plant, gas turbine, or aero-engine applications is a plus.
- Knowledge of 3D CAD tools; experience with Siemens NX® is advantageous.
- Able to work in distributed, multidisciplinary teams with complex interfaces.
- Experience in measurement signal and data analysis; familiarity with LabVIEW® and MATLAB® is beneficial.
- Strong skills in root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving methods.
- Willingness to travel to power plants, construction sites, and suppliers, approximately once per month, occasionally for up to two weeks.
- Excellent command of English; German is an advantage, and knowledge of Italian is a plus.
