Position Overview
Join a globally operating retail supply chain organization as an Indirect Tax Specialist, contributing to an international finance team dedicated to indirect tax compliance. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including VAT/GST, Intrastat, and other related obligations.
Your responsibilities will include supporting operational units, collaborating with finance stakeholders, and aiding in audits, projects, and continuous process improvements. This junior to early professional-level role is ideal for candidates seeking to deepen their technical expertise in indirect tax without pursuing people management.
The position is well-suited for tax professionals who thrive in structured compliance work, appreciate international exposure, and enjoy collaborating with multiple stakeholders in a dynamic in-house environment.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure indirect tax compliance for assigned countries by preparing, reviewing, and submitting indirect tax returns (VAT/GST, Intrastat, listings, etc.).
- Review and analyze indirect tax compliance data for multiple jurisdictions.
- Support and participate in multi-country indirect tax audits and requests from local tax authorities.
- Handle additional indirect tax topics, including taxes related to food products where applicable.
- Perform VAT rate determination for assigned countries.
- Advise internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting, Financial Controlling, etc.).
- Engage in and support indirect tax-related projects.
- Ensure internal working processes are implemented, updated, and continuously improved.
- Prepare reconciliations between indirect tax filings, ERP systems, and other reporting tools.
- Support payment and refund processes.
- Initiate and contribute to process improvements.
- Perform other indirect tax-related tasks as assigned by the Indirect Tax Manager.
Your Profile
You are a detail-oriented and analytical tax professional, thriving in an international, fast-paced environment. Comfortable handling multiple deadlines and complex data, you have a collaborative approach across functions.
Looking for a long-term in-house role, you prioritize stability, technical depth, and continuous learning over rapid career advancement.
Must-Haves
- Relevant university degree (BSc/MSc) in economics, business administration, law, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of hands-on professional experience in indirect tax / VAT compliance.
- Experience in indirect tax compliance across multiple countries; Switzerland-only VAT experience is insufficient.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, or submitting VAT/GST returns.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Strong Excel skills.
- Proven ability to navigate multiple information systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail.
- Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills.
- Flexible and positive attitude with a growth mindset.
- Willing and able to work at least 50% on-site in Pratteln (rolling average).
- Eligible to work in Switzerland (Swiss or EU/EFTA citizenship preferred).
- Residing in Switzerland or within a reasonable commuting distance (including cross-border FR/DE).
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in a multinational or shared service environment.
- Exposure to supply chain, logistics, or retail-related tax topics.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Experience supporting indirect tax audits.
