Job Opportunity: Indirect Tax Specialist (100%)
We are recruiting on behalf of a global retail supply chain organization for the position of Indirect Tax Specialist, offered on a permanent basis.
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Contract: Permanent position
- Location: Pratteln, Switzerland
- Workload: 100% (40 hours/week)
- Work Model: Hybrid – minimum 50% on-site presence in Pratteln
Position Overview
This role is integral to our international finance team that focuses on indirect tax compliance across various jurisdictions. The Indirect Tax Specialist will ensure compliance with indirect tax regulations, including VAT/GST, Intrastat, and other related obligations. You will collaborate with operational units and finance stakeholders while contributing to audits, projects, and ongoing process enhancements.
This position is best suited for candidates looking to expand their technical expertise in indirect tax rather than pursue a people management track. It is ideal for those who thrive in structured compliance environments with international exposure and multiple stakeholder interactions.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure indirect tax compliance for assigned countries by preparing, reviewing, and submitting indirect tax returns (e.g., VAT/GST, Intrastat).
- Review and analyze indirect tax compliance data for various jurisdictions.
- Support and participate in multi-country indirect tax audits and local tax authority inquiries.
- Handle additional indirect tax topics, including those related to food products where applicable.
- Perform VAT rate determinations for assigned countries.
- Support internal stakeholders on indirect tax matters (e.g., Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting, Financial Controlling).
- Participate in and support indirect tax-related projects.
- Ensure internal processes are implemented, updated, and continuously improved.
- Prepare reconciliations between indirect tax filings, ERP systems, and other reporting tools.
- Support payment and refund processes.
- Initiate and contribute to process improvements.
- Perform other indirect tax-related tasks as assigned by the Indirect Tax Manager.
Your Profile
The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented and analytical tax professional, comfortable operating in a fast-paced international environment. You should be adept at managing multiple deadlines, working with complex data, and collaborating across various functions.
We value stability, technical expertise, and continuous learning over rapid career advancement in this long-term in-house role.
Must-Haves
- Relevant university degree (BSc/MSc) in economics, business administration, law, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of hands-on professional experience in indirect tax / VAT compliance.
- Experience in indirect tax compliance across multiple countries (domestic or Switzerland-only VAT experience is insufficient).
- Proficiency in preparing, reviewing, or submitting indirect tax returns (VAT/GST).
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Strong Excel skills.
- Proven ability to work with various information systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail.
- Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills.
- Flexible, positive attitude and growth mindset.
- Willingness to work at least 50% on-site in Pratteln (rolling average).
- Eligibility to work in Switzerland (Swiss or EU/EFTA citizenship preferred).
- Residing in Switzerland or within a reasonable commuting distance (including cross-border FR/DE).
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in a multinational or shared service environment.
- Familiarity with supply chain, logistics, or retail-related tax topics.
- Experience using ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Experience supporting indirect tax audits.
- Knowledge of indirect tax topics related to food products.
