Position Overview
The Hotel Manager is responsible for the entire hotel operation onboard, ensuring maximum guest satisfaction and a pleasant working environment for all crew members. This position adheres to the Viking China Outbound Standards (VRC PSO) and budget operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the entire hotel operation onboard.
- Ensure all hotel departments are managed according to established standards.
- Manage and motivate crew members, with an emphasis on Department Heads.
- Implement service procedures according to company standards.
- Order supplies for the hotel department (food and beverage, housekeeping, equipment, etc.).
- Maintain impeccable cleanliness, hygiene, and order in all areas of the hotel, following HACCP regulations.
- Conduct final inspections and receive all supplies and deliveries for the hotel department.
- Supervise and organize the opening and closing procedures of the ship at the beginning and end of the season.
- Actively liaise with guests and effectively handle complaints.
- Participate actively in all onboard events and special functions.
- Be present in the galley and restaurant during meal times.
- Ensure smooth communication with the nautical department, onboard management, crew, and the Head Office in Basel.
- Arrange departmental training as per the requirement profile.
- Responsible for cost control and ensuring adherence to all set budgets.
- Analyze daily debtors in coordination with the Receptionist/Night Auditor.
- Conduct inventory checks following company procedures.
- Participate actively in loadings.
Qualification Profile
- Degree in hotel management or related field, preferably with emphasis on food and beverage operations.
- Several years of professional management experience in luxury hotels, preferably in the cruise industry.
- Excellent management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Guest-focused, stress-resistant, calm under pressure, team player with a positive demeanor.
- Open-minded and flexible with strong social and intercultural competency, knowledgeable in Chinese culture and proper etiquette in social and business contexts.
- Excellent Mandarin and good English skills (both written and verbal); knowledge of any additional languages (such as German) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and proficient computer skills.
