Join Our Team as Head of 3D Product Design
On is seeking an innovative Head of 3D Product Design with a robust background in footwear, a comprehensive understanding of product design, advanced skills in 3D modeling, and an unwavering curiosity for emerging technologies and tools. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of 3D specialists and visual explorers, pushing the boundaries of digital design while driving the transition from traditional workflows to cutting-edge, 3D- and computationally-powered methodologies.
Your Mission
- Build and nurture a team of 3D modeling, rendering, and visualization experts, ensuring close collaboration with other designers to deliver exceptional work from initial explorations and conceptual design to production-ready 3D datasets.
- Be an integral part of the design studio, continuously advancing the visual and technical frontiers of On’s products.
- Inspire, coach, and upskill individuals and teams to develop future-oriented design capabilities required to lead in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
- Facilitate the transition from 2D to 3D by integrating AI, computational design, and simulation tools that will define On’s future design workflows while enhancing creativity, efficiency, and impact.
- Take charge of accurately digitally representing materials in virtual prototypes, including scanning and processing digital materials to ensure both visual and physical precision.
- Assist in minimizing the reliance on physical samples, thereby shortening development timelines and allowing the team more time for creative design exploration.
- Scale 3D pilot initiatives into robust and reliable workflows utilized across the design organization, continuously optimizing our processes for long-term success.
- Act as a vital link between internal teams in Zurich and Asia, as well as across cross-functional pods such as Development, Engineering, IT, and Operations, ensuring seamless alignment throughout the entire footwear creation process—from concept to production interface including Digital Twin creation for AR/VR applications and marketing assets.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the digital landscape of our product organization and collaboratively drive and implement this strategy with cross-functional partners.
Your Story
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, 3D Animation, Game Design, or a related field with a strong emphasis on 3D and digital design.
- 7-10 years of experience in high-level design environments, accompanied by a strong portfolio showcasing visual and performance product solutions.
- Proven experience in leading teams and/or large-scale projects in agile environments.
- Deep expertise in 2D and 3D tools, from sketching to modeling to rendering to computational design.
- A passion for performance products and a strong connection to the world of sports and movement.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
