Description

TOFWERK is seeking a visionary Head of Multi-Reflection Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MR-TOF-MS) Development to lead the ideation, prototyping, and commercialization of next-generation mass analyzers. You will guide a multidisciplinary team of physicists, electrical engineers, and software developers to push the boundaries of ultra-high resolving power, mass accuracy, and in-situ analytical capabilities. Your role will involve directing the technical roadmap and long-term vision for the multi-reflection mass spectrometry product line, ensuring alignment with corporate and market objectives. Collaboration with Product Management and Manufacturing teams will be essential for scaling prototypes into fully compliant, manufacturable commercial instruments while driving the generation of patents.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry or Physics
  • 10+ years of work experience in the development of multi-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometers
  • Expert knowledge of instrument design
  • Expert knowledge of simulation software
  • Team player with a strong sense of responsibility
  • In-depth analytical skills
  • Excellent time management and creativity
  • Fluency in English (C1 Level)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of multi-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometers (MR TOF MS)
  • Design and test hardware components of multireflection time-of-flight mass spectrometers (including vacuum system operation and design, mass spectrometer design, ion optics, and detection systems, as well as fast analog-to-digital data acquisition)
  • Run and characterize prototype scientific equipment
  • Conduct basic programming (Matlab, Python, Igor, or similar)
  • Utilize simulation software (e.g., Simion)
  • Document new inventions and evaluate their potential for patentability
  • Collaborate with other departments and product managers for instrument development
