WAS Economy Work Social is excited to announce the establishment of the newly created Legal Competence Center, which aims to enhance our position as a forward-thinking, effective, and service-oriented social insurance organization. Located in Lucerne, WAS combines the business areas of compensation fund, IV, wira, and public services under one roof, providing essential support to the population, economy, and public sector.

As part of our strategic realignment, we are bundling our legal services into a unified department, presenting a compelling leadership opportunity with significant potential for growth and influence. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced professional to take on the role of Head of the Legal Department (80–100%).

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and lead the newly established area comprising approximately 30 lawyers.
• Directly manage three team leaders and the secretariat.
• Develop sustainable structures, clear processes, and effective collaboration within the department.
• Ensure efficient and high-quality processing of appeals and complaints.
• Position the legal department as a knowledgeable, service-oriented, and future-focused unit within WAS.
• Drive the development of the department aligned with the strategy of WAS Lucerne.
• Advise both service management and executive management on legal issues.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• A law degree with a bar license.
• Leadership experience in a legally oriented environment.
• Strong knowledge of social insurance law, with openness to adjacent legal areas such as data protection, public employment law, and organizational-related issues.
• A reflective and reliable leadership style, fostering trust and guiding change processes constructively.
• Strategic thinking capabilities with an ability to recognize connections quickly.
• A blend of legal precision, pragmatism, service understanding, and a focus on efficient processes.
• A high affinity for digitalization, organizational development, and modern collaboration practices.
