Head of Finance & Operations (m/w)

UNI Global Union is seeking a Head of Finance & Operations who will have overall responsibility for the Finance, IT, Administration, Infrastructure, and Events domains within the organization.

The Head of Finance & Operations will lead the accounting, financial planning, budgeting, and reporting functions while supervising financial projects and regional office accounts. This role also involves managing team leaders from the IT and Events teams and ensuring the effective management of the organization’s administrative support.

About the Job

As the Head of Finance & Operations, your main responsibilities will include:

Financial Management & Controlling

  • Preparing budgets and monitoring expenditures for all organizational units.
  • Managing accounts at the organizational units and project levels.
  • Developing key performance indicators and reporting for governing bodies and organizational units.
  • Drafting the annual report for the Treasurer.
  • Maintaining and continuously improving the internal control system (ICS).
  • Providing support and advice to regions on accounting and financial matters.

Financial Accounting

  • Administering the financial accounting of the organization in accordance with the Swiss Code of Obligations (OR), including preparing the annual financial statements and organizing internal and external audits.
  • Ensuring payment transactions and collections in Swiss Francs and foreign currencies.
  • Planning cash flows and investing surplus liquidity.
  • Coordinating and monitoring external property management, reviewing property accounts before incorporation into financial accounting.
  • Overseeing payroll processing and settling social security contributions and withholding taxes in compliance with Swiss law.
  • Conducting fiduciary duties including reviewing tax situations, managing commercial register entries, and organizing legally mandated audits.

IT and Operations

  • Coordinating administrative support for the organization.
  • Overseeing internal services such as reception, event support, and building maintenance.
  • Ensuring provision and maintenance of infrastructure, including workspaces, meeting, and break rooms, and office supplies.
  • Ensuring close coordination with HR on payroll matters.
  • Commissioning and monitoring external service providers.
  • Ensuring data security and proper archiving practices.

Staff Management

  • Leading employees in the Finance team.
  • Managing team leads from IT and Events.
  • Organizing and planning work tasks for the Finance team.
  • Developing and optimizing processes and checklists.
  • Monitoring compliance with governance and signature rules.

The Head of Finance & Operations will report to the Deputy General Secretary and will be based in Nyon, Switzerland.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should possess:

  • A Chartered Specialist in Accounting and Financial Management, or a similar professional qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Swiss accounting system (OR), Swiss labor and social security law, and Swiss tax law.
  • At least 15 years of professional experience in finance, preferably in an international or non-profit setting.
  • Familiarity with the MS AX Dynamics accounting system.
  • Experience in coaching, training, and developing team members.
  • Prior experience overseeing IT, Operations, and/or administrative functions.
  • A minimum of 5 years of team management experience.
  • Familiarity with change management processes is an advantage.
  • An excellent command of both French and English.

  • A competitive monthly gross salary starting from CHF 13,329, based on experience, payable in thirteen installments.
