Job Opportunity at the Central Animal Facility (CAF)
The Central Animal Facility (CAF), the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland, is seeking a qualified candidate to join our dedicated team.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, including processes, finances, and personnel.
- Provide veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
- Supervise the hygiene and monitoring program.
- Manage the animal stock using our database system.
- Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday care.
- Write, update, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Advise researchers on genetically modified mouse breeding and research procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, university directives, and process specifications.
- Participate in building renovation projects.
- Support the ECLAM residency program and internal education.
Requirements
- A doctorate in veterinary medicine with specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
- Practical experience in breeding genetically modified models; experience with fish or zebrafish is a plus.
- Proven management experience and leadership in complex structures.
- Team-oriented, goal-driven, and possessing excellent communication skills.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
