Job Opportunity: Central Animal Facility Director
The Central Animal Facility (CAF) is the largest division of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the position of Director of the Central Animal Facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, overseeing processes, finances, and personnel.
- Provide veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
- Supervise hygiene and monitoring programs.
- Manage animal stock through a database system.
- Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday care.
- Write, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Advise researchers on genetically modified mouse breeding and research procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, University directives, and process specifications.
- Participate in building renovation projects.
- Support the ECLAM residency program and internal education initiatives.
Requirements
- Doctorate in veterinary medicine with a specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
- Practical experience in breeding genetically modified models; experience with fish or zebrafish is a plus.
- Proven management experience and leadership skills in complex environments.
- Team-oriented and goal-driven, with excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in English; knowledge of German is an advantage.
