Job Opportunity at the Central Animal Facility
The Central Animal Facility (CAF) is the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. We are seeking a skilled professional to join our team and contribute to the management and care of our diverse animal population.
Key Responsibilities
Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, overseeing processes, finances, and personnel.
Provide veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
Supervise the hygiene and monitoring program.
Manage the animal stock utilizing the database system.
Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday care.
Write, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Advise researchers regarding genetically modified mouse breeding and research procedures.
Ensure compliance with the regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, university directives, and process specifications.
Participate in building renovation projects.
Support the ECLAM residency program and internal education initiatives.
Qualifications
A doctorate in veterinary medicine with a specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
Practical experience in breeding genetically modified models; experience with aquatic models such as fish or zebrafish is a plus.
Proven management experience and leadership within complex structures.
Team-oriented, goal-focused, and possessing excellent communication skills.
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is an advantage.
